"Girly" Video Games

I always download like a gig of cute custom content, go in fully intending to play a nice family game, and then 10 minutes in I end up coralling children in pools and setting nursing homes on fire.
Maxis delivers on the simulator aspect then, innit? i mostly liked building and decorating interesting houses, i cared nothing for the people at all. a similar "girly" game i played an incredible amount of time in was Harvest Moon, as was mentioned earlier, but also the various Shin Megami Tensei games or Fire Emblem. also FF Tactics. i still haven't played my copies of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 - the fangirls scare me when i started reading up about the game looking for guides on the Arena bosses. FFX-2 was fun too with the dress spheres.

i think something like well over 70% of casual gamers or mobile gamers are female simply from device access and time availability for "pick up and play". the games with some social integration cater to the market as well.

I'm an unapologetic Harvest Moon fan myself, so much so that I own every game in the series - though I don't like that the translation team (Natsume) essentially ran off with the name rights and made their own series with blackjack, hookers, etc.

I used to really love the Sims 3, especially once I discovered downloadable content and the "replace this family" feature and started populating my town exclusively with perfect 10s. Then I discovered that it was possible to torrent extension packs and shit went wild. Unfortunately I didn't have the same amount of free time anymore after a while so I've stopped playing.

Zoo Tycoon was fun too. Happy animals!! But I would always abandon my zoos after a while because once you had guests coming in, it was always just "Zookeeper can't reach the poop! Guests can't see Tiger 3! Zookeeper can't wash Panda 5!" and not really very exciting.

But I think the girliest game I've ever loved (that hasn't been previously mentioned) is The Legendary Starfy! Only one of his games has been released in the U.S. because of the whole "Americans hate kawaii" thing.

I would just "accidentally" delete a section of the lion's enclosure and let em run wild.

Sometimes if individual guests were being a pain in the ass, I'd put them in with some carnivores. I seem to remember that there were a couple of animals that wouldn't really hurt guests, the guests would just be like "o shit they're loose", so I'd do "animal encounters" by dropping a guest in an enclosure with the animal.

Harvest moon 64 is my jam. I'm so glad I got a cheap cartridge from a corner store when they were selling off their rental stock.

For girly mobile games, "covet" is a pretty fun game. It's like paper dolls but with clothes you can actually buy irl, and you earn money by people voting on your outfits. Another good quick mobile game is a bejeweled-esque game but based on sailormoon called "sailor drops".

Right now (literally I'm typing this between loading screens) I'm replaying Skyrim. I might replay morrowind again after this.

I always make my characters in RPGs I play with my husband girls and spend a bunch of time changing their clothes and I have spent a ridiculous amount of time making my XBox Live avatar cute. When I get my hair cut or colored, I change her hair, too.

I think any Character Creation screen with enough customization options can be considered a girly game in itself. (I admit I spent 2 hours once on the perfect character for certain games.. but the CC had waaaay too many options.)

Does Pandora's Box count? During my youth, most gamer girls were usually into puzzle\point'n'click adventures while the boys were cussing at each other during some heated LAN matches of Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament (except me and a few other weirdos).

I admit that I love me some hidden object games. I subscribe to Big Fish so there's new games available all the time. I really enjoy the Hidden Expedition series, the Mystery Case Files series, and the Myths of the World series.
Not gonna lie, the Hidden Expedition was indeed pretty neat. Oh, and Putt Putt was a huge part of my childhood!

LOL, I did this in Jurassic Park Operation Genesis a lot.

I really enjoyed zoo building games for a while. And I used to love the Sims 2 - but more for the house creation and shenanigans, never really been into the character creation aspect.
Still can't be bothered to design and style my characters when I'm, lets say, playing Skyrim. But I have had soooo many animal enhancing/adding mods over the years. So while I'm supposed to be out there slaying dragons and joining the war I'm often just standing around looking at a baby duck and going "awwwww".

Then eat 50 cheese wheels at once because you didn't see that bear coming due to cute baby duck overload.

I spend hours in Sims making my families perfect and beautiful and making their house perfect and beautiful, then forget I own it for three months and never play with that family again. I also spend entirely too much time making my RPG characters the prettiest. At the risk of bringing back Stray Sheep memories, my proudest achievement is my Saint's Row character: a beautiful, fashionable redheaded lady who sounds like Murdoc. I played it solely for that.

In terms of straight up girly games, this site is my favorite when I want to kill some time. I also unabashedly love China-made Disney Princess dress-up games.

I'm obsessed with Animal Crossing. It's a popular series with guys, too. The game is all about befriending your animal neighbors, decorating your town and your house, dressing up, and enjoying a cute, relaxing life. You play in real time. There are fun events happening all year, such as holidays, birthday parties, fireworks shows in the summer, and fishing tournaments. I have 1 copy of Wild World, 3 copies of New Leaf (two I play regularly and one is a cycling town that isn't used much), and 1 copy of Happy Home Designer. I have 7 amiibo figures (Kapp'n, summer Isabelle, winter Isabelle, Timmy & Tommy, Celeste, Reese, and Cyrus). And I have all 456 amiibo cards (including the 6 European Sanrio cards).

There used to be an article about the launch party of Animal Crossing City Folk in 2008 in Manhattan. Nintendo decided to market the game to women with a "girls night out" theme. For some reason the party was at a bar. There was an open bar and girls were just getting drunk instead of playing the game. Then someone found out there were prizes for playing the game stations and she yelled out to everyone and they all rushed to them. It was pretty funny but I can't find it anymore. The only evidence left is this Reddit post about it and this MTV article, but all the pictures are gone.

What about mobile games?
Stuff like Cocoppa Play, Line Play. They're perfect for pretty people. Also Naver has lots of girly games on there (need to be able to read 한글 though)
Cocoppa Play especially since it's a pretty large money maker in Japan and it's super girly.

About a year ago, I was waiting in the lobby of 109 in Shibuya for someone I was meeting with, I was checking my Cocoppa to kill time, there were a group of 20 something girls nearby and we all mutually discovered by the intro music that we were all playing Cocoppa. We talked and added each other to our friends lists, they'd poured so much money into it, it was pretty insane tbh, but they had really awesome pretty stuff. One girl spent 5000 Yen in gacha to get one specific super rare dress.
It's honestly nice to see girls be interested in girl stuff instead of girls be interested in 5000 gender flavors, so I'm really ok with them spending so much on fashion and fashion games. It was at a time too when Cocoppa was being flooded by weebs and koreaboos who had to tell everyone their gender and pronouns in their greeting or BLM promoting, which was making the game rather ugly.

Starting with a bit of nostalgia like Barbie Fashion Desginer. One heck of a dress-up game.
.
oh man, I still have outfits I printed off from barbie fashion designer. I had barbie magic hair styler as well, but I swear that the weird plastic 3d made me nauseous. I could never play it for more then 20 mins.
