Posie Parker does this better, she will talk to pretty much anybody and take any platform that'll have her, but she's a lot more selective about who she endorses herself. It's realpolitik, she gets the need for balance between rejecting purity politics and not compromising on principles.
His skill was always in generating content and getting it out. Lots of people have good ideas or fancy themselves writers but it's no use in the industry if you can't deliver something on time. Guys like him are really useful in writers' rooms for those people to bounce ideas off and get them on paper, so they do work well with people who are funnier but less consistent. IIRC he said on one episode of The Mess that when he was starting out he thought that comedians performed a new set every night so he just cranked them out as fast as he could until someone explained to him, and by then he'd got the hang of churning out content.

Standup is an absolutely brutal field that often kills even the people who are best at it, examples, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, Mitch Hedberg. It drives people to drug abuse and self-destruction on a phenomenal scale. Seriously, as funny as they can be, nobody should destroy themselves in this manner.
Throw in thieving asshats stealing your bit, like Mencia. Rogan has talked about comics Mencia did that to, even right before they were about to go on. It'd be brutal to be stolen from when you're new or unknown and your material is live sets, not broadcast.
