I've watched the pilot in full and here are my final thoughts.
-Person playing as Kain (Caine?) is a really bad actor. There's no dynamic range in his voice and all of it is emoted exactly the same. His voice also sounds way too young and high pitched to pull off a character like him.
-Writing is okayish but the concept is extremely cliche (Portal, Portal 2, Stanley Parable, That One Black Mirror Episode, etc.)
-Like I mentioned the dialogue is way too wordy. Caine's writing seems to suffer where there's little to no brevity so the direct consequence is that he sounds like he talks way too much and comes across as annoying rather than the charming, but deeply sinister character he's supposed to be portrayed as.
-This show is not subtle about its central themes at all. This show practically bludgeoned me to death with the idea of existentialism at least seven times in the duration of the show and it got really fucking grating really fast. And this is supposed to be a pilot...
-Thank you for not adding "fuck" every three sentences at least. This is one of the reasons I could never get into Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel because apparently saying fuck every sentence makes my dialogue more funny.
-Animation's passable, but I wish there was more going on in the background and the setting was a bit more dense because every scene looks super uncanny and off. I get that they probably want to make this show seem like a fever dream, but the uncanniness of the scenes seem completely unintentional rather than a byproduct of its central theme.
Overall, not a bad show. It's an okay one for me. I can see why people would really enjoy it, but I just wish it was more subtle about existentialism rather than the over the top totally not stanley parable guys stuff I just watched in this pilot.
