Glitched NES Graphics - Exploring with TK - Thank you 1985 for being so different

Wow I just got a big headache doing this. But got awesome!

Began with barely any corruptions but progressively got worse.

Guess this proves I didn't take good care of my games. As I said this is the oldest game I have and I live in the Islands where salt air is abound.

Enjoy this crazy trip.

Today we explore on my corrupt SMB3 a bit of World 4 and World 6.

I can't wait to expand upon this.

There were fake/unfinished levels you could access with the Game Genie on NES games like Mario 1-3 and Metroid, I wonder if what the specific codes did was reliably pump the same garbage data over and over on demand to generate non-existent game content, like what OP describes.

I think a lot of the glitched worlds in old NES games were just the machine rolling into areas where it shouldn't be and interpreting that as graphics. The graphics of the NES was registry based and if wonky data is fed into the registry it will draw whatever is at those addresses as tiles or sprites or palettes.

@TrippinKahlua see if you can get your hands on a game like Rad Racer, Slalom, Mach Rider or 3D World Runner and test that.

Well lucky me I picked up Slalom last month. I don't think I've tried loading it though. I honestly don't have all that much free time. This is the kind of stuff I need 36 hours off for.

One of those pictures in the OP has a great response for when you just can't be bothered with some dumbass bothering you online or you find out your entire team is typing in moon runes:

Nah man. I work in tourism and it's the peak of summer. I might have more time for myself in August.

But I did order a Rad Racer through eBay and should get that in a weeks time.

Nice. I'm interested in how that will look, probably only sprites will be fucked up while the 'track' will be normal. But maybe not.

Finnish is not allowed on the internet.
