I think the decline of Netflix has less to do with wokery (either pro or con) and a lot more to due with (1) the recent price hike, and (2) massively increased competition from other streaming services that charge less and offer more. Its current catalogue just isn't competitive now that every production company has its own service, many of which offer free trials and are available bundled with phone/internet/other streaming services. Netflix has no such deals.
The writing has been on the wall for Netflix for years now, absolutely no way were studios going to continue to give away their catalogues for free.
agreed, most of the people i know complain about the lack of quality content now. its $240 for less than a half dozen shows a year. meanwhile you basically get prime, apple+, HBO Max and disney+ for free.
“Normie who are uninvolved with the culture war” by definition aren’t aware of/don’t care about this stuff so why would they be cancelling Netflix over it? Like seriously I know we are obsessed with this stuff here but out in the wider world most people simply do not care.
Fact is, Netflix used to be the only game in town for streaming and now it’s not. You don’t need to make a woke argument for it unless you’re the type who feels the need to make a woke argument for everything.
its because while normies don't notice it "their brains do" so the woke bullshit pulls people out, even reddit was complaining about the lesbian relationship in lightyear being odd for a 90s-era kids movie.
Wonder how much time till Netflix goes the way of the Blockbuster
they basically are already where blockbuster was in 2007, they can't compete with their competitors because they're so big and have to charge way too much for the same service as the other guys.
they peaked and are in a downswing, once your total subs drops, it doesn't get back up easily. their revenue will keep dropping and with it comes the cut backs and cost cutting measures which means no $10 million an episode 1st seasons and being even quicker to cancel tv shows. its going to be a vicious spiral as they attempt to right the ship again. mind you they're this way pre-recession. which should be a massive indicator things will not go well for them.
its like circuit city, a company that was starting to struggle before the 2008 recession and got so destroyed by it they don't exist anymore.
plus their ideas of ending sharing accounts and giving people ads is going to lead to more people dropping especially when they hike prices again.
I don't think it'll die. It'd just go from a position of hegemony to a position of competition, as one player in the market. Unless they self destruct through idiocy, I imagine they can survive until the new technology comes along to replace streaming. But it's hard to imagine what could make them obsolete the same way DVDs became.
So I guess they'll just go until they self destruct, or the internet gets blown up. It wouldn't be market forces euthanizing them like Blockbusters.
they'll probably be brought out once their stock drops enough. they're literally the only streaming site without a sugar daddy, can't wait for Netflix to become Microsoft+
