Goblins.

If you love hating webcomics, you probably remember this one. Its author Thunt (Tarol Hunt) was sadly born without a sense of aesthetics, but that did not stop him from realizing his confusing and gory vision of a Dungeons and Dragons comic where humans are the villains, goblins dindu nuffin and paladins are racist terminators. Here's a primer.

(or go to the Bad Webcomics Wiki)

It's garbage in its most glorious form. Anyway, after Thunt had a complete meltdown in 2014 (accompanied by some interesting vent art), Goblins slowed down to a crawl. Why is it relevant again? Thanks to Kickstarter it might be back, in pog animation form!

Those aren't just empty promises either, some of those voice actors are in the Kickstarter video and are already tweeting about it. What's your favourite Goblins moment that you want voiced by Phil LaMarr (Hermes from Futurama), Jim Cummings (Winnie the fucking Pooh), Steve Blum (all of anime) or Billy West (Fry from Futurama)? Here's mine.

As a side note, some people disliked the rape-y villain and Thunt's reaction basically was "no it's cool, the story is based on my mom's rape".

Not sure if they'll reach their goal ($465k), but Thunt is an expert at milking his dumb fans. In the past, he ran a series of comics where he'd essentially hold a character named "Tempts Fate" hostage, threatening to kill him if his fans didn't donate enough money. And of course, they did - he made around $55k from this in total. For added fun, he never finished the last comic as far as I know, eventhough people donated around $37k for that one alone. The complete mental breakdown probably didn't help.

He also has some not-so-great history with Kickstarter already. In short, his fans donated almost $180k for a Goblins card game, but whoops, it never got finished because the developer took the money and ran. Here's Thunt's since deleted blog post about it that goes into more detail. But enough about that, let's hand that guy $500k for a cartoon already.

So yeah, let's see how this goes. Share your favourite fucked up and/or retarded moments from Goblins if you want or freshly discover the glory that is Thunt. And if you haven't already, give Goblins a read, it quickly becomes hilarious for all the wrong reasons. When it starts getting wordy, just skim-read and watch the rubber people cry and explode.

Update on the Kickstarter:
They pulled the Kickstarter due to it getting nowhere near enough funding. They're going to relaunch it on IndieGoGo sometime next week. It'll have a lower goal, and instead of being for a full episode, it'll basically be for a 5 minute trailer that they'll use to pitch to studios/people that actually have money.

I heard that they did some Q&A stuff before giving up on the Kickstarter. They have no plan whatsoever with how to convert the webcomic to a new medium. It sounds like they think they can just directly take the panels and use that as the basis for the animation/the script. They were also promising Jennifer Hale and Tara Strong as part of the VA team to play female characters, despite said characters not appearing until way later in the comic and them insisting that they wouldn't want to deviate from the normal storytelling in the comic. That also includes keeping all of the rapey elements of the story, which makes it incredibly unlikely that a studio would consider picking them up.

Even some of the diehard fans had reservations about the project, both because of the sheer scope and due to the last kickstarter failure. Naturally, these people were condescendingly spoken down to and shockingly, that did not help with them reaching their fundraising goal.

Thunt is definitely a lolcow in his own right. I've debated starting a thread on him before, but I didn't think there would be enough recent material. The bad webcomics wiki forum has a 300+ page thread on the guy that details a lot of his past antics.

Anyway, as far as best of the worst moments in the comic, I'll expand on that rape panel in the OP. The bald dude is Thunt's self insert OC. The person being raped is the insert for his mother. Guess which characters end up getting together.

Everything about this webcomic makes my skin wither & die from me itching all over - such god awful illustration and art style choices.

I know that's not enough reason to make this guy a lolcow - I just wish it was... It is enoguh reason for me to hate what he works on, however. Thankfully, hearing this news will set this motherfucker over the top for being such a shitty person (in terms of getting a page here, of course.).

I mean, he's a total cow. He claims he got PTSD from people being mean to him on Twitter, and he stopped making his comics for months because a feminist called him out on all the weird ass rapey content in his comic, and he couldn't handle that because he always thought he was a feminst. Then, there was all the drama with his kickstarter which OP mentioned, and to date, still hasn't been completed. He also got super passive aggressive and refused to go back to a con because a security member dared to ask him for identification. There was also an incident where he paid someone to do art for the comic and failed to properly credit them, though he at least did fix that one after enough people pointed it out. It made have even just been incompetence on his part as opposed to trying to steal their credit, it's really hard to tell with him. There's also all his unfulfilled Patreon goals from X amount of years ago.

The problem is, he's not active enough as a cow to warrant an ongoing thread, and even most of his greatest hits are a few years old now. Maybe if this Kickstarter ends up being as much of a failure/scam as the last one there would be content, but eh, he's pretty content to just barely do his job and rake in Patreon bucks. If nothing else, his twitter is usually good for a laugh at how pathetic he is.

This is like a way edgier version of Dominic Deegan, I doubt the show gets made.

I think it's safe to say that we all know this will never get made into anything TV - based. It being made into an internet cartoon that we should be worried about (and is the most likely best case scenario to ever take place, too.), as that is much easier to do, and in the case of this - royally fuck up, as well.

Even it becoming an internet cartoon is debatable. Thunt runs a D&D comic without permission from Wizards of the Coast, the company responsible for D&D. In the past, their legal team has come down hard on people for using their products without permission to get money. Webcomics are usually safe, because, well, they're webcomics. A bigger project, such as an animated show, is much harder to slip under the radar. If it was just some YouTube passion project, they'd probably be fine, but something with a big Kickstarter budget is bound to draw attention, especially since this is just for a single episode. Presumably, more kickstarters would follow for future episodes, or they would use it as a pilot to pitch to actual TV executives. Either way, it would draw even more attention.

So he's basically the David Hopkins of D&D?

Oh sweet Jesus

:powerlevel: My ex was a genuine fan around 2012, that's how I found out about it. Gave it a read and it was amusing at first. Then it turned into gore porn and Thunt's creepy issues started bleeding through, and I was done. It also revealed a lot about my ex, who had famously bad taste, although I think Thunt's whininess eventually turned her off to it. No idea what she thought about the 2014 meltdown though. :powerlevel:

These big name actors are just jumping in because D&D is trendy now, right? They have no idea what a lunatic the creator is... right?

I've never actually ran into someone who's a bona fide fan of Goblins, just people who think it's a laughably mediocre webcomic. It's really hard to understand how he keeps getting money.
Its actually not that bad.

Not nearly as dissappointing as Looking for Group, which went to shit very early on and just got worse and worse.
