Oh sweet Jesus

:powerlevel: My ex was a genuine fan around 2012, that's how I found out about it. Gave it a read and it was amusing at first. Then it turned into gore porn and Thunt's creepy issues started bleeding through, and I was done. It also revealed a lot about my ex, who had famously bad taste, although I think Thunt's whininess eventually turned her off to it. No idea what she thought about the 2014 meltdown though. :powerlevel:

These big name actors are just jumping in because D&D is trendy now, right? They have no idea what a lunatic the creator is... right?

There's speculation that Phil LaMarr is actually a fan of the comic based on how much he is shilling it/some of the comments he's made that indicates he's at least vaguely aware of the plot. Not sure about the others, Phil is the only one I've heard really pushing it.

I'm surprised this lolcow has the balls to ask for money after his unfulfilled Patreon rewards, unfinished Tempts Fate comic, and $150k Card Game fiasco.

He has an established record of being a mentally unstable spaz who pretty much NEVER delivers on financial obligations, yet people keep tossing him money.

I bet when this venture sucks and/or falls apart, he'll have enough "PTSD" to never have to actually work on his comics again.

They pulled the Kickstarter due to it getting nowhere near enough funding. They're going to relaunch it on IndieGoGo sometime next week. It'll have a lower goal, and instead of being for a full episode, it'll basically be for a 5 minute trailer that they'll use to pitch to studios/people that actually have money.

I heard that they did some Q&A stuff before giving up on the Kickstarter. They have no plan whatsoever with how to convert the webcomic to a new medium. It sounds like they think they can just directly take the panels and use that as the basis for the animation/the script. They were also promising Jennifer Hale and Tara Strong as part of the VA team to play female characters, despite said characters not appearing until way later in the comic and them insisting that they wouldn't want to deviate from the normal storytelling in the comic. That also includes keeping all of the rapey elements of the story, which makes it incredibly unlikely that a studio would consider picking them up.

Even some of the diehard fans had reservations about the project, both because of the sheer scope and due to the last kickstarter failure. Naturally, these people were condescendingly spoken down to and shockingly, that did not help with them reaching their fundraising goal.

Sounds like they should just give up, then.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that they've been sidestepping/ignoring any questions regarding rights, since the comic is based off of D&D. Even if they downscaled and opted for a trailer to pitch to other companies, this is still a huge issue, especially if they want to directly copy the comic for the story. The later parts could easily be tweaked to be a generic fantasy world, but the earlier parts are full on D&D references that are a little too specific to work in any other type of setting.

This is also something that Thunt should be aware of because he made a point of addressing it way back in the day, since some other webcomic had gotten in trouble for using some D&D specific races or something. Even if he got permission, it's still a bad idea to leave them in untouched because they're such specific jokes that apply to a niche audience, which is the last thing you want in your first initial episodes.

I'm not sure if I want to know the context. Oh, who am I kidding, I totally want to know the context.

Since Goblins is based on a D&D campaign and Thunt is a Dungeon Master he was trying to foreshadow a D&D mechanic based twist he had come up with. He had a special demon affecting people in such a way as to require a non-standard "Cure Disease" spell to stop the effects. In a game like D&D you consult your gods or inspect symptoms or whatever with dice rolls to figure something like that out.

The way he chose to handle this idea in comic form was to have someone figure the twist out because someone affected by the demon shouted "IT HURTS LIKE A SICKNESS" bluntly in their face a month earlier.

He later changed it to "I feel sick" after everyone mercilessly mocked him and turned it into a meme.

Of course he's a tranny.

It's the big hip thing everyone's doing right now to help you cope with feeling that you're about as masculine as a tampon.
