Going to college? - You gonna get raped.

This is why to stay away from Ivy Leagues. Either they are full of SJWs and false rape accusations or they are full of manchildren who commit rape because they have never seen consequences for their actions or both.

I just graduated from an Ivy League, and last time someone got raped on campus was 4 years ago. So really it is quite variable

Honestly from my time in college there really is a lot of rape
One of my friends reported a guy threatening to rape her. A mutual friend got her to rescind the allegation for a bullshit reason and the dipshit head of public safety sent her a letter gloating about how they totally knew she was making it up the whole time. So much bullshit.

Honestly I think that you are probably more right than many believe. I think that public accusations are likely false but I still think that rape is a serious problem, just one that is overreacted to and one that has a bunch of political baggage attached to it that is more important than the actual issue. It is very sad that feminists are making every rape into a political case because it is interfering with real justice

The devil is in the details.

It is also important to note that the totals in the federal data reflect only reports of rape, not the number of rape cases prosecuted through criminal courts or adjudicated through internal student disciplinary proceedings. Experts say that rape and other forms of sexual assault are generally under-reported.

I'd like more information on what what they are defining as rape that gets reported. Just because something gets reported as rape doesn't mean that the rape has actually occurred or that what happens even fits the legal definition of rape. Of course what is defined as rape will vary across jurisdictions but the point still stands that a report about reported rapes does not take into account false positives. Are they looking at only the rape occurring within the student body or are they including rapes that happen when only one party is actually a student. How much is happening off-campus compared to on-campus? What is the crime statistics of the area where the school is located?

Point of story is, the article is click bate and the comments are more informative.

And to think at my college the worst thing we had to worry about was a dude trying to shoot up my dorm sophomore year and thefts every other day. C'mon, Florida, what happened to the era of college co-ed rape murderers like Ted Bundy and Danny Rollings? Step up your game!

...all terrible joking aside, this reporting is pretty misleading. For one, they're using the definition of rape as forcible penetration, and while it's not directly stated it seems to be implied these reports are only from women. What about rape between gay and lesbian students, or is that only relegated as a "sexual assault" statistic? Due to their choice of rape definition, does this mean they're only counting male-on-female straight rapes and not female-on-male? There are a lot of unanswered questions here.

In short:

Another way of looking at the data is to analyze rape report totals in the context of the size of enrollment. The Post analysis found these 10 schools had the highest total of reports of rape on their main campuses per 1,000 students:

  • Reed College: 12.9 (reports per 1,000)
  • Wesleyan: 11.5
  • Swarthmore College: 11.0
  • Knox College: 10.0
  • Williams College: 8.9
  • Pomona College: 8.5
  • Bowdoin College: 8.3
  • Gallaudet University: 8.1
  • Beloit College: 6.9
  • Dartmouth: 6.7

*sigh* Not really news to me though.

It's been a problem for years and it even got two mainstream media articles written about it. People Magazine in 1994 then Al Jazeera in 2015. There was a star student who was also a serial rapist, kept racking up the assaults but the reports kept getting ignored until public outcry forced a hearing to be scheduled two weeks before he graduated so of course it led nowhere. His face was all over the website and recruiting materials too.

And if you thought that was bad, a "frat" named HOEZ was just uncovered and it's pretty much a group of guys competing to see who can fuck the most people on campus based on their scoring system. They haven't done anything about it, of course. It was only discovered when one of its members decided to come clean after a sexual assault awareness event that he attended. Really fucked up.

Not that I don't believe you, but do you have a link to the first story?

That's fucked up.

1994 People article. 2015 Al Jazeera article.

As for the star student, no articles were written about him because of FERPA laws & the reports were to the school not the local police but here's some posts from Deaf Thought Police (lolcow community-esque FB group) about him. You should be able to see them as it's a public group. This one has the most info and has details of the coverups. A post calling out his frat, current and past brothers chime in. Kappa Gamma is the most prestigious frat on campus, Phi Kappa Zeta is the equivalent sorority. Both were founded on Gallaudet so there's no other chapters nor there are any plans to do so. This one goes over some of his accomplishments.

After he graduated, he ran off to Hawaii according to his LinkedIn which happens to have a relatively isolated Deaf community compared to the mainland. Good riddance. Just seeing his face in one of those posts pisses me off.

HOEZ is still a developing story and vlogs are a lot easier to upload on Facebook nowadays so most of the information on them are in ASL or on campus knowledge.

Holy shit. Thanks for the info.
