What I can tell you from golf firsthand is that getting a good score takes a lot of practice in both swinging and precision and the weather is something you have to account for with unpredictable wind patterns with wind gusts. In other words. It can be a time consuming way to torture yourself with anxiety.
 
I don't have much experience but I get the feeling not many people play golf anymore and it's going to be mostly extinct within the next 20 years.

It used to be something well off businessmen did that worked well as a networking opportunity, but if all the people you work with now live halfway across the country and you talk to them through a computer it's not like you're going to get together for a few rounds of golf.

Golf courses get shut down and replaced by other more bugman-y things like housing developments or shopping centers, I guess because owning such a large plot of land just for a few people to hit balls around on just doesn't work with economic reality most times.
