Just the way the beak juts awkwardly off to the side is enough to diagnose the artist with terminal furfaggotry.

It doesn't have to be this way, you can get a decent looking face from all angles if you take a little inspiration from nature. Key problem is that they're basically just plopping a beak and other accessories onto a human head, which of course looks kind of retarded.
Imagine what they'd look like without hair, I took twenty minutes to find out;

The answer is... kind of silly. Nice head spike dude! Maybe it's a little unfair to criticize parts of the design that are by design hidden, but really, how is that thing supposed to actually attach to the head? How are any of these parts supposed to fit together? On some level this is just a 2d vs 3d disagreement —you can get away with way more questionable designs in 2d— but even then if your design doesn't really make sense, it's going to innately look funny, and as mentioned by Marissa, you're going to end up either consciously or unconsciously restricting your camera angles
Out of curiosity, what does your Fang model look like when facing forward?

The most ridiculous thing about all this is that the only comment the devs have given about Snoot Game is that "it seems like it wasn't made in good faith."

First, I'm not even sure that's correct. To paraphrase RedLetterMedia in their Things review, you don't make an actual, complete movie while drunk. You're not going to create anything of lasting value or merit when fueled only by disdain. This is why every activist and idpol game is utter shit, they're reactionary, condescending, and come from a place of seethe.

Snoot Game by all accounts is making people feel something. There's a fucking booru with 60 pages of fan art? This comes from a place lacking good faith? 30 people got together to work on a game over an entire year, and it was "just" a piss joke?

If a dabbling game maker just wants to take the piss, they shit out a half hour garbage demo in the span of an afternoon and a dozen people say "lol le ebin meme." This is obviously more than that.

But even if the game wasn't made in good faith?

Isn't that...praising with faint criticism? Like you really couldn't think of anything else bad to say about it. "I loved it but it was made by 4chin so ultimately I am forced to conclude it is not a good look."

They could say it's too short, or the art is lazy, or it wasn't fun/interesting. Or they could just not say anything at all.

Saying it wasn't made in good faith is the weirdest possible criticism.

The eyes are off from the source material, but that's an issue with translating 2d to 3d, and actually having to have an eyeball rather than just an amorphous slit with an iris and pupil stuck to it

As a bonus I gave a redesign a shot, it's pretty rough. Spent most of my time experimenting with the hair honestly, it was decent practice, Not the style they were going for obviously, and it's probably for the best they decided to shorten the character's snout, works much better for their how-to-draw-anime/furry style.

Do your best to ignore the weird vertical white line in the second shot, it's a shader artifact 😔

"Bad faith" is just a prog deflection reserved for whenever they're forced onto the backfoot. I mean sure, some things are done in bad faith, like for example their usage of bad faith in this context. Ironic!

I should really continue my playthrough of Snoot Game, I've been putting it off for too long. ^^;

Also, I know it's been mentioned earlier in the thread, but KO_OP's mismanagement of this clear marketing opportunity is astounding.

Imagine if something like this happened to any other company whose upcoming game had exited public consciousness.

"Haha, while we can't say for sure that our vision for these characters will exactly match up with this one, we're always excited to see fans engaging with our character designs! We're flattered and amazed at the effort that went into this, and welcome any new fans to sign up for our newsletter!"

Maybe you have your lead artist throw together a scene from the fan game using the official character models, creating fan art of the fan art. A good time had by all.

Instead you shut down all communication channels except for your exclusive Discord, which no one new can enter, where you've curated a group of simpering eggshell-walkers. You carry out a campaign of McCarthyism to root out the Snoot Game enjoyers, and put the rest on notice for misgendering the pterodactyl girl.

Have you considered...
snoot1-1631919013741.jpg

With some work(lol) they could make their weird style choices work in 3D. Having given this five minutes of thought about the technical aspects I made the thing below. The orange circle is the no-go zone, the end of the snout(purple dot) is not allowed in there and it will act as a limb to turn it away. The no-no zone will change size depending on head orientation. In addition to that, make it so that the character can't ever directly face the camera. "The head turning will be weird", yeah, some thought and planning around that is necessary but a lot of weirdness can be masked in that flat cel-shaded style. They still need to put in the work.

The head horn can be controlled in a similar way and with their style they could pretty much billboard that one. In the end I think they would benefit from going 3D.

A big part of the Snoot Game is about Fang accepting herself as a woman and dropping the non binary label. They couldn't possibly do what you're suggesting without angering the consumer base they're aiming for.
This game was doomed from the start, really.

Also I forgot to quote ConcernedAnon, but that front view looks better than I expected. They could have done something like this and not have had to avoid front facing shots entirely.

Kinda creepy too, you gotta wonder if they do full blown background checks just to join their server.
The third question in the application asks you if you have any social media like Twitter and, according to people who tried to join the server, the mods apparently get suspicious if you say that you don't (truthfully or not).

So yeah, you're not too far off.

The fact that it was made at all is more than the devs can say :smug:

Dude, don't use default hair for shit like that. Use Blender's stylized hair system. You can even export it as an fbx or obj.

I don't even know what that is, is that a specific addon? I was using a couple of hair particle systems with some grooming, but I'd be happy to learn of a better way.

if you have to police your games community this much then there's obviously something wrong with the product you're attempting to create.
they can censor and restrict people from the official communities as much as they want, but that's not going to silence them from discussing it elsewhere and laughing at it, that's not going to make them magically disappear and result in all of your problems going away.

people have serious feedback to give and the proper response to seeing that feedback is to discuss it and find out if there's any actual merit to it, not digitally exiling those people and continuing on the same path that attracted these people in the first place.
it doesn't matter that these people politically disagree with you and/or prefer a fan project, they still have ideas that can be valuable in making a better product and understanding the actual consumer base rather than the carefully curated one full of "yes-men" that they've created and exclusively listen to.
On top of that, they DMCA a parody game that clearly falls under fair use and would be found as so by any judge with even a shred of reasonability.

Someone on the Snoot Discord learned about GVH's press kit and shared it with everybody else, where they found out that the kit has some new images for the game. I attached the zip file to this post.

Later, someone in the GVH discord also found out and shared it. Around a day or two later, the download link for the screenshots in the presskit disappeared.

The Stellas are actually twins and the bigger one is the younger sister and the smaller one is the older one.
