The demo will come out an hour earlier than expected, for anyone on the edge of their seats about it but only having this thread as their source of news.

We'll see what's been left in the unused files, you know they won't be cleaning it up before release.
I think they will, specifically because of Snoot Game and the "stalker child" audience waiting to see how shitty the game is.

In fact they probably spent the whole fifth year of development making the demo from scratch because they couldn't figure out how to strip out later game content without it crashing.

The demo is out (it's about 10 minutes long) and the voice acting sounds pretty half-assed. Also love the lack of background music.
I'm no audio engineer, so it might be my untrained ear, but the balancing between the two of them sounds off to me. Wonder if the big rhythm/music sections are going to be real bad.

wooooooooow those animations are bland and stiff as fuck. The mouth movements are the most jarring thing. Half the time they aren't in-sync with the voice clips
It's downright embarrassing quality for five years on the Canadian dole. If they didn't peacock so much about the not-3D 2D art pipeline, swallowed their pride and used a real tool it might be better. Hell, I've seen better Flash animations.

I've heard that some of the music, and it's actually fairly decent, but after this demo I doubt it will be properly implemented. Either that, or it will be the one decent thing about this game.

this demo shit feels rushed and unfocused like they basically wrapped up whatever they were doing and didn't bother polishing.
like damn nigga how can you screw up animations that basically? KO_OP are you still afraid of snoot?

Just had to chime in but.. JESUS CHRIST IN A MONOCYCLE

What is that lip sync?! What is that voice acting?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT ANIMATION!!?

And you mean to tell me this took 5 HOLLY CANADIAN YEARS TO MAKE?! and they're expecting people to pay for it?!

Jesus man you seriously can't make this shit up :story: Downfalls like these are what make grateful to live inthis timeline and regret it entirely in the same breath. I seriously can't wait for the full release to slap some reality on their faces,

I don't have a ton of experience with VNs but in my limited experience western VNs tend to be shorter as a rule. Still pathetic that a five hour campaign is all you get for five years of development though.
I did a post of a bunch of VN's playtimes a few pages ago. One that's roughly the same length is Doki Doki literature club, and I do think a lot of people would argue an animated game is by nature a bit more valuable than a game with static sprites, at least enough so you could charge more for one with similar length.
The problem is that Doki Doki's price was free. That was 100% resting on it's merch sales, and it turned out to be a damn good call. This won't be profitable even with merch, and even if you only count the stuff that survived that time when everyone pointed out they had a self-confessed kiddy-porn consumer on the team.

Nothing says "shitty VN" like that two-second pause right in the middle of the vid, where Conversation Topic A finished and Conversation Topic B began. It's as organic and natural of an experience as moving between two train carriages.

Ok, I am back, and here it is what I found:

After the intro card of KO_OP, this cute Fang greets you:

Then there is the title drop with no sound effects, no music, nothing:
1683275940483.png
Even when you click the button, it does not make any sound.

Then there is the classic "be aware this is a demo, there may be bugs, your choices reaaaaally matter and this icon is for autosave" crap that most games have nowadays. But after all is said and done, the game starts with ambient noice of a bonfire and some music at least! The "animation" is just a slideshow of scenes with inanimate objects on the sand with minor movement and light flickering to give the impression of movement. The animation of the characters on the other hand is rough to say the least as they barely move their bodies, and it is uncanny how the mouth looks, they tried to animate a long face with proportions of a human mouth on some angles and the end result is off. And the way they talk to each other is like they are looking for sailors.

And then we get to our first choice after the brief interaction with the other characters, aaaanndddd this is as far as I got. Why? Because the demo is unplayable without a controller and I do not own one right now. Yes, they even state that at the start of the game:

I denied this fact and I pursued forward and I kind of got the mouse to work by mistake (and I am still do not know what I did to make it work) to select something just to be kept out again because the game expects me to press "X" on the controller:

I have not seen any videos respect to the game development and maybe they should have allow the option of the demo to be played with mouse and keyboard like any other visual novel. But if this the first impression I got of the game, then Snoot game has nothing to fear; the presentation is really mixed, and it shows that they tried to push out the game to exit the meme status it has been getting just because they got beaten to the punch with their own characters by some anons with no budget.

Oh, and as a last note, the game was using almost all my GPU by being stuck on the first choice screen:

Do not get me wrong, good games have come out of Unity, but the performance on this game is all over the place

Wowzers, 10 whole minutes, that's absolute conficence just giving out 1/18th of your game just like that (probably drops to 1/6th if you read text and skip the voicelines which take ages to go through and are shit anyway).

This is amazing on so many levels. Are the faggots on discord already talking about how it changed their life how Fang told Naser that he was a Nerd? Also, not even a dumpy ambience music... SAD.

How do you fuck up something that simple for a game being released on PC?
Even games specifically designed around having a controller support keyboard controls to some extent, and they have far more depth than a visual novel with four input keys.

Really do feel like they spent most of the last five canadian years just fucking around instead of making their game, and the quality of the animation supports this.
