Plus, it has representation for acronym people. I'm not an expert on that topic, but feel like they've still handled it better than, for example, Activision-"the fact that our HR made women take off their shoes and step on his face as a part of the job interview got leaked to the press, so to make amends we now officially announce that Hamster is gay! #TransRights"-Blizzard. GVH is a game for people like this.
The playthrough I watched, I will have to disagree with the "representation" in GBVH.
The characters are so toothless and inoffensive and the writing in general has no real problems to be solved, the representation boils down to "Oh, Fang identifies as non-binary and her family come from a vaguely Asian/middle-eastern cultural background and aren't disapproving of her choices, they just think of it as a phase and THATS TWANSPHOBIC" (and again, with the writing being as toothless in general as it is, Fang being non-binary comes off as a classic teenage rebellion rather than """true""" gender dysphoria and makes me even less likely to sympathise with her as a whole), "oh, Sage is a literal pastel coloured twans masc identifying but classically feminine woman, their personality boils down to being feminine and liking cooking and their personal struggles with their family is never investigated more deeply than "family disapproves because trans"" and "Oh Rosa is literally just a woman with a trans voice actor and their trans struggle is summarized as "latina who will never have children and this is bad because latin families are massive and they disapprove"".
I stand by being sympathetic and empathetic towards "true" trans people (the people experiencing actual gender dysphoria, not the troons and pooners that fetishize their identity) and you can call me a stupid faggot for it.
Yes, your example of Blizzard's """representation""" is shallow and queerbaiting, but GBVH is equally queerbaiting and shallow.
One example of "queer" representation in games I've played that I actually really liked was Claire from Cyberpunk 2077 - she's a flawed character with a troubled past but her being a tranny isn't in your face from the first encounter, all that hints at her being a tranny is the trans flag on her vehicle that is OPTIONAL to use in an OPTIONAL set of side missions that doesn't have a larger function other than adding to the main story interactions with Claire. The first time she openly and clearly reveals she was born a man and her struggles as a trans person in Night City anno 2077 is near the end of her questline and even then, her story isn't revolving around MUH HECKING TWANSPHOBIA. She feels human and interesting, she's not a perfect person and she doesn't boil down to "oh, my entire personality is TWANS STWUGGLES"
unlike Fang and partially Sage and Rosa.
Fang is LITERALLY just teenage rebellion personified seen with a 2020's lens. Had she been in a game from the late 2000's or early 2010's, she'd just be your stereotypical goth or emo normie teenage girl.
Sage is literally any pooner that fetishizes yaoi so much that they think being a twansmasc makes their life easier and will get them all of the soft UwU gayboi relationships.
Rosa is literally just a woman who was changed last minute into being trans.
The only reason any of these characters could be considered a genuine attempt at representation is, and I will give a singular point for effort to KOPE, their voice actors are non-binary and trans identifying.
I don't know why this game still infuriates me enough to the point I have more genuine gripes and passion about this bullshit than any of the "stans" of this money laundering scheme
