Let's talk about the old and the upcoming Goosebumps show on here.

I loved the Haunting Mask and Night of the Loving dummy episodes.
Even if the show was chessy alot of times. It still played a big part of my childhood

For me it was a nigh literal "baby's first horror" franchise, with some of my earliest memories of horror fiction being the monster-blood on a plane episode, the tower of london episode, and the android kids episode, and honestly in terms of baby-horror-for-retard-babies I think it was pretty good for what it was, and was a decent enough first stepping stone for a life of enjoying the horror genre.

That being said, even at the time I found it cheesy as all hell and I have zero desire to revisit any episode because ironically enough they are now far scarier to me due to the cringe i know i will endure if i watch them again

What a coincidence because I just happened to rewatch a few of the original episodes for October. Both The Hunted Mask and its sequel still hold up and are the best episodes of the series. One Day at Horrorland, however, was terrible. Goosebumps was great for what it was but nowhere as good as Are you afraid of the dark or Monsters.

Actually we'll the show is very cringy. I think the first episode Haunting Mask Actually had good acting form the main child actress.

Funny too I made this thread because I plan to watch the haunting mask on Netflix tonight. It's one of my favorite episodes even my dad loves it.

Well yes Are you afraid of the dark did get more scarier and had better special effects. I still have a special place for Goosebumps in my heart

I read all the books as a kid and caught a lot of the episodes. My favorites were A Night in Terror Tower and the one with the dummy. The opening sequence with the dog with glowing eyes creeped me out lol
I remember being entertained by the show but not scared. “Are You Afraid of the Dark” gave me a few good spooks though.

I vaguely remember having watched a fair bit of Are You Afraid Of The Dark at around about the same time as goosebumps but the only actual episode I remember vague details of was the one with the demon clown who loved cigars

Currently watching Haunting mask on Netflix. Poor Carly Beth in the beginning you really feel bad for her. Also I realized the episode never explains why the sculpture head of her moves in the beginning before she has the mask?

Also did the show blow out most of its budget with the first episode? The special effects are much better than later episodes (minus Haunting mask 2)

Just something I notice

Love the old one for the cheesey acting and cool practical special effects.

Definitely a great nostalgic thing to love. I loved the intro music too. It's a shame that Horror Land wasn't a very good episode because I for some reason remember that book very fondly. I surprisingly never watched Are You Afraid of the Dark

I distinctly remember being terrified of the Werewolf of Fever Swamp episode. Decided to re-watch it along with some other episodes a few years back for nostalgia's sake and it still has a certain creepiness to it. Goosebumps' bad acting and cheesiness gave it that 90's charm. Also echoing the sentiment that The Haunted Mask was probably one of the best episodes, Carly Beth's actress did surprisingly well. Are You Afraid of the Dark was on a whole other level though.

Didn't know there was a new series coming out. Tentatively intrigued.

Not only did Carly Beth actress do surprisely well. But as I said above I find the story and special effects were very good as well. The effects seem very different than later in the show that most people make fun of. Also the episode has a factor of creepiness that later episodes for some reason couldn't capture with the only exception being the sequel to Haunting mask episode.

It's just odd comparing the first episode of Goosebumps to the rest.

Edit: also yes there is apparently a Goosebumps show being planned in early development. Supposedly it should be on Netflix in the future.

When I was a kid, I would change the tv channel at the fucking music and wouldn't watch the full intro until I was already an adult.

I still don't watch anything horror.
It was because of the dog, wasn't it?

I remember getting into Goosebumps after my English teacher gave me the "A day at Horrorland" book. The show had a certain charm despite being really cheesy.

Are you Afraid of the Dark was definitely more impactful and chilling with the delivery of their stories, their downer endings and memorable episodes like the Tale of the Dollmaker, The Tale of the Thirteenth floor and The Tale of the Quiet Librarian.

I did like the fact Goosebumps had longer story series than AYAOD much more though.

dyk back in the late 90s after production on the tv show ended a goosebumps movie had been in development hell? notibale directors who would have been attatched included Tim Burton still in his golden years and George friggin Romero of al people?! honestly i kinda wish i could see the timlines where the guy who made the dead trilogy made a goosebumps movie of all things.

When I was a kid, I remember my grade school class was pretty much evenly split between Goosebumps and Animorphs. I still love spooky shit, but I think I still prefer Animorphs.,

Not that I don't also have a fond nostalgic feeling for 'Goosebumps' now... But I do still remember other kids back in the day calling it "GooseDumps." XD
