Years almost done, no more big releases for the time being. Time for another shill awards season and another soy wars over the gotys. So pick yours and sperg about the rest.

My personal gotys,

Pizza tower which is the zoomer tranny platformer. Really good mechanics, nice art style, very smooth and polished, fun to play and go for completionist. Too bad the fanbase is a bunch of degenerate tranny coomers.

Bomb rush cyberfunk which is the unofficial jet set radio remake. Fantastic open world, great artstyle, great visual design, traversal is really slick and fun, very smooth and polished, real fun to play. Also the Y2K environment aesthetic is peak kino, reminds me of GTA SA and NFS Most Wanted.

Honorable mention: Warhammer Boltgun, very good but not quite great. 7/10

I only played like two new games of note, here's what I remember:

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. Interesting visual novel/adventure game kinda mystery thing, played like 20 minutes of so.

Raging Bytes. Zombie JRPG in the style of like a cheesy B-movie. It's okay but insanely repetitive & simple. A lot of potential for sequels.

I'm sure Super Mario RPG remake would be my game of the year though, as long as it doesn't have any censorship or anything.

My Top 6 GOTYs

GOTY 2023.jpg

Special mentions to Drainus, Volcano Princess, Super Mario Wonder, Everyone Loves Katamari Damacy Encore, Metroid Prime Remastered and Paranormasight.
There's still November and December left so it depends if I eventually get my hands on Star Ocean Second Story R, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, World of Horror and Super Mario RPG.

2024 has already my two most anticipated games, Earth Defense Force 6 and Unicorn Overlord.

For me it would be

Legend of Heroes Trails into Reverie: gigantic fanboy of the series, not the best entry, but I enjoyed my time with it very much
Armored Core 6: Awesome game, but not awesome enough for me to fully play NG+, I'm in the middle of that playthrough taking it slow, loved it but not as much as something like Sekiro which I played through 3 times in a row.
Pizza Tower: Fantastic platformer, though the later longer levels felt a bit too long. Still have to play the Halloween content.

I may add Mario Wonder into the list if I keep going through it.

Tears of the Kingdom I played for a bit, but the minecraft thing just did not click with me and seemed like it would be a constant pain.

If I also include games that didn't come on 2023. I had a good time with Valkyrie Profile on PSX and Enter the Gungeon has been a fantastic "I have 10-15 minutes" game.

the only games i played that came out this year are BG3 and starfield. one game, i got a hundred hours on while the other, i only got less then an hour.

anyway BG3, as pozzed as it was, is still a pretty fun game too play. something gaming devs have forgotten over the years. if you going to preach homoglobo on me, atleast make it a fun experience.

for the game award show, i have a sneaking feeling that starfield is gonna win most of the rewards and Baldur's gate 3 will get nominated but wont win anything (or atleast wont win GOTY).

It's one thing being suckered by Todd's sweet little lies, another that he can pay enough money to bribe all of the mouthbreathers of the industry to blow smoke into the ass of a game that will be old hat in a month in the same year a Zelda and From Soft game came out. If anybody is going to be buying awards it's SpiderMan 2 since Sony is very willing to throw cash around for this sort of crap.

Personally, AC6. Most of what I was excited for was somewhat of a letdown.

Between TotK, Soydermon, Toddfield, and BG3, I think the normie audience has enough rope to hang themselves with over garbage vidya opinions.

You know you've jumped the autism shark when you start calling people 'normies'

Let alone for liking a dungeons and dragons based game.

I've played Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3. Even though Zelda is my favorite franchise, I think BG3 is a win for me. I had way more fun with BG3 and I am in my third playthrough, while TotK is sitting on my shelf with a few sidequests to be completed. I don't know, it didn't captivated me like BotW did when it was released.
I watched my friend play Pizza Tower and it's a really good game, still need to give it a try.
Damn, I didn't play a lot of 2023 games :/

Lunacid

I also nominate Age of Wonders 4 for disappointment of the year
