Fractal probably is overrated, but the Node makes for a perfect NAS case (with tweaks like mentioned) when compared to my NZXT H440 or my main rig's Corsair 4000D.

Purpose built NAS' are nice, but not for what they're priced at, especially when they're just a two or four bay system sans drives.
 
I've been liking Silverstone and rack cases. But I got a Corsair recently, because it looked like it was safe to lay it down, looks a little odd but doesn't hit the ceiling.

But really, why glass sides?

Personally, I have one of those fancy "Monitors" to look at when I game.

All the RGB was really annoying on the PC I use for my home theater until I figured out how to get it all turned off. Projectors and stupid LEDs don't go well together.

Their cases have good build quality, but their fans and fan controllers are shit. They’re acceptable if they come with the case but I would never buy them separately. Why the hell are they still shipping DC fans in 2024?

Also I hate how the Terra and North looks and I really hope it doesn’t create a trend of wood and Ikea colors on PCs. At least they still look better than NZXT’s tin lunch boxes.

The new NZXT cases are a sin. Their original phantom series was a bit gimmicky in its shape but they were solid and functional with lots of flexibility and good airflow for the full size ones. Speaking of NZXT their kraken cpu coolers are alright for a starter but god help you if you have to try deal with the software used to control it

I assume it's someone fell for the marketing:
3 pins: DC, with analog control, bad.
4 pins: DC, with PWM control, good.

And yes, there are AC PC fans, they're a LITTLE BIT LOUD but I have a pile of Dayton 4C549 fans I inherited. 100CFM,

I could sperg about electrical engineering and power theory but I’ll just say I was referring to DC vs PWM. Are there even any motherboards that only support 3-pin nowadays?

DC fans are worse primarily because they can’t run at very low voltages. This makes for an awkward fan curve if you want a passive-active setup.

Maybe if you really dig around in the bargain basement you can find some with some 3 pin headers. Still, 3 pin fans have a place, They're dirt cheap with the Artic P12s being a whopping $23 for a 5 pack while the PWMs are closer to $30+

Case makers probably figure people are gonna swap in whatever fans they feel like anyways. I'm glad my Lian Li came with zero fans. Get a bit tired collecting 1 or 2 off fans from brand X whenever I swap everything out for ML120s or even my Silverstone 140s.

I'm assuming you are not considering the fact that all 4-pin mobo connectors are backwards compatible with 3-pin fans?

Because they're not?

Unless the MB supports both voltage variation on Pin 2 and PWM on pin 4 a 3 pin fan on a 4 pin connector will run at 100% all the time. Sometimes this is a BIOS setting if it's supported.

The other way around, a 4 pin fan on a 3 pin header should always be controllable in voltage mode just not as well as a pure PWM control.
