Well at least Jack Thompson got his wish of seeing GTA banned in the form of it being unplayable. I wonder if he gave take to some sabotage money for them to "remaster" these old games so that way nobody would want to play on them ever again.

Explains why they took off the originals so it would make it impossible to purchase them in working order.
 
And it runs so, so, so badly. See earlier in the thread for Digital Foundry’s analysis. Resolutions are so abysmally low, frame rates so unacceptably janky, that the game is basically totally unplayable on the vast majority of consoles. My favourite part was when they highlighted that there’s a performance and a fidelity mode for Series X. Some reflections and volumetric clouds are omitted in performance mode, and to get them back requires a 30 fps lock.

Fucking what? On a goddamn series X? Hell even Cyberpunk, broken as it is, looks and plays WAY better on a series x. This is probably the most unoptimized pile of steaming shit I’ve ever seen, doubly so from a AAA studio.
One issue is how GSG made all the models "higher quality" , simplest way i can explain it is that they took the og models , did some minor touch ups (adding fingers , etc) and then smoothed out the models , this however causes the models to jump in size by alot , while i havent looked at any myself , im willing to bet the models in game are comparable in size to character models from a david cage game.

Thats unironically exactly what happened , ai upscaled textures fucking things up and removing detail , models any human would have noticed should have had edges were smoothed to hell, literally everything in this game was ran through a ai or a program at some point.
 
I assume reverse engineering the original games means having the source code accessible. I doubt GSG has access to the source code.

At best, they copied and pasted all of this together and made ... Well, this.
Its the results of several ports.

PS2 > Xbox / PC > Mobile > Definitive Edition

GSG took the code they used for the Mobile ports and ported to Unreal 4.
 

When even an Irish YouTuber starts talking about the games in a disappointing voice, that goes to show how badly R* botched this release. It's as if the entire video game industry decided to all shit the bed at once (even if they've already been doing it for a while), just to one-up each other.

I disagree with his take that the devs shouldn't be held at fault for this mess though, given how silly mistakes like including the entire game's source code happened.
Kevin is bae. He is an icon. He's one of the few who seemed to actually enjoy the game despite the shit with RGL.

Reviewers are probably the only people can enjoy the GTA remaster as they can laugh at the buggy game without paying the full $60 for lazy product.

the algorithm part is more accurate on the texutres upscaling though, saving T2 money from hiring artistes
