Most sane user on GTAF calling out the mods for their obvious bias in favor of Rockstar.
I like his spirit but, like he said himself, he's in a legal battle at the moment with the first hearing due some time this November. He's the primary defendant in a lawsuit Take-Two filed against reverse engineered GTA projects. Consooming callouts aside, the dude shouldn't give a band of lawyers even more ammo to use.
 


These two YouTubers are the only ones that I currently know of that are not buying what Rockstar is selling with this recent trailer. Gypsy was more serious and half-joking, where as RADAL was taking the piss out of Rockstar for making a half-hearted remastered trilogy that makes actual modders tinkering around with the effects of the games look better in comparison.

And those modders do it for free, while they get cease and desist letters from Rockstar to stop modding their games.

Really though? As far as looks go they are about as crude as 3D graphics of the era could get, they were not good looking games even when they were brand new, you just didn't care because the sense of scale alone was mind blowing, but one of the biggest leaps in games since then though is being able to have both good graphics and open world maps and it's a bit hard to go back.

And as far as how they play, GTAIII's targeting was garbage (which I guess is less of an issue on PC to be fair) and all the games suffered some really frustrating difficulty spikes (there's a reason "all you had to do was follow the damn train!" became a meme)

I tried revisiting them via PC back around 2011 and found them too dated to stick with even back then, now of course everyone's tastes are different and if people disagree that's fine, but I do think it was a very worthy idea to remaster them, it's just a shame they haven't done a great job.
 
Unpopular opinion, but I'm not a fan of the ultra realistic graphics mods. It loses a bit of identity trying to appear realistic. And it can reach uncanny valley, looking out of place.

I'd rather have ultra realistic than fortnite shit.

Agree. Except the mission in Vice City where you drive across the rooftops with the superbike. Fuck that mission.

Imo "the damn train" was more of a meme because upon failure Smoke would bitch at you for not being able to keep up when it was his fat ass shooting the top of the car, and you were dropped in the middle of nowhere miles away from anything familiar. Once you figured out how to distance yourself properly to get the bullets to hit it really wasn't difficult. The only memorably irritating mission from San Andreas I think was the toy plane one David Cross gave you on PS2 (it was patched on PC to be easier).

I probably replay one of the 3D era GTA games at least every 1-2 years. My goal since I was a teenager has been to play each one in chronological order but I've never had the patience. That might make me slightly biased because I'm used to it, but other than graphics I think they hold up just fine. There's usually one or two story missions more difficult than the rest but it usually at most requires an extra couple of tries. Modern gamers used to autosaves every half second probably would get pissed off at stuff like losing all their guns on death and traveling back to save points but if every 13 year old in the world could deal with it in the mid 00's I don't see why anyone else can't today.
 
Hardest GTA game would have to be either San Andreas or Vice City Stories.

Some absolute bullshit in that game.

I'd say III is the hardest of the 3D era. Mostly because you can't even crouch in that game so you spend the majority of firefights standing in the middle of the road like a pleb while you wish the M16 didn't use that ridiculous sensitive aiming system.

Never played the 2D era games. Like many people, I started with 3. You and @ProblematicUser420 are considered legends in the GTA fandom.

I would like to try 2.

It's not bad, you used to be able to get it free on the R* site, but R* is going to R* and they took it down.

I'm glad I found it on an External Hard Drive recently if I'm honest.

Also, no map. You'd better have a damned good sense of direction and a near-photographic memory of your surroundings. Especially if you're playing the Expresso-2-Go mission.

To be honest, I never had a problem with Expresso-2-Go. I seem to remember that you could scout the map and have all the stands marked before attacking and that way you weren't feeling as much pressure from the timer.

SAM was III's worst mission. As G-Spotlight was for Vice City and Wrong Side Of The Tracks was for San Andreas.

(Can't really remember LCS, I guess the one on the boat with the chainsaw goons running at you and Light My Pyre for VCS)
