All these throbbing erections for an announcement. You'd have to be an idiot to not realize these dummies won't ever release another one. by the time the new game comes out it will be 2029. a decade ago they just finished making a new game every year, the past decade has been ports out the ass and two games where a majority of the development was spent on the online portion. You'd have to be dumb to think whatever crap they come out with will be in any way good.

GTA 6 YEAAAAAAAAAHHHH im fucking crying guys.

No but seriously it’s going to suck

True, and it's not like they can't make an 80s radio station to simulate that feeling (unless they're very cheap...).

I'll admit, as much as I've been feeling down about Rockstar lately, this sort of speculation is still kinda fun.
Y'all better not start posting BossManFTW videos on here.

San Andreas was set in another time period too, yet Rockstar had no trouble adapting Los Santos to the present day for GTA V.
The difference is LA is always culturally relavent and timeless due to Hollywood, but Miami is only good for the 80s, these days Miami just feels boring in the current era since all the drug running has shifted from the Caribbean to Mexico leaving only petty gang crime especially since Cocaine isn't even in the vogue anymore.

It's like San Francisco and it's golden age is the 1960s and 70s, Vegas is the 50s to 70s

I mean sure both are still interesting now, San Francisco due to the architecture and hills and Las Vegas due to the ultra-capitalism, the glitz and lights but they will never have the that vibe of their golden eras because San Francisco has become unaffordable and is in decline and Las Vegas has sanitized itself to be family friendly for tourists.

Vice City can be done in modern day, just replace coke with bath salts and synthetic marijuana and have missions where you work for Florida Man and bite people's faces off while high and alligator hunting minigame

I could see modern Vice City work if they incorporate more of mainland Florida, the Florida Keys, and even something like Cuba.

That's just me, though. Going back to a single city format after a decade long gap would be very underwhelming (and this is Rockstar...).

Why can't it be in the 80's again?
Sharkcards, can't sell the kiddies sharkcards if the brand new 2022 McLaren or Lambo can't be added due to being 1987, also setting it in the 1980s will cause lore issues as how can you be in Vice City at the same time as the Lance Brothers and Tommy Vercetti?

It's a rule of thumb whenever a full number GTA game comes out it's set in the present day, like at release one of GTA 5's radio DJs talked about the new Hundred Dollar bill design being released (Which were officially released just 2 weeks after GTA 5's release.)

My dream for a new game set in vice city would be set over 3 decades with 3 different protagonists and would be a rise and fall story.
Act 1 would be the 80's and would be a rise to power story that mirrors the original Vice City
Act 2 would be 10 years later in the 90's, You play as an underling for the Act 1 protagonist and see his eventual decline as the act goes on before he eventually turns on you.
Act 3 is another time jump this time into the 00's, you play as an up and coming member of one of the mafia families from GTAIV who is sent to clean up the failed business venture Vice City became, with all the glitz and glamour of 80's VC becoming worn down and tacky in the near modern day being a fitting metaphor for what became of the Act 1 protagonist.

It will never happen, but a man can dream.

The original Vice City had plans for the Florida Keys (called the Gator Keys) that never materialized. IIRC you had to do a mission for Avery Carrington there or something.

Let us shoot up Disney World please.

I'm wondering if they'll do that or a RDR 2 style map expansion where they have Los Santos or Liberty City, but add more, like lower Liberty State, more of Alderney, Connecticut, the missing part of Long Island, etc. like the original plan for GTA IV, or add North San Andreas with San Fierro and Las Venturas, completing the state like GTA SA.

I'm torn on what they'd so in that situation. On the one hand Los Santos again would get stale and annoy the fans, even if the game took place mostly in North SA. But expanding GTA IV's map would be less impressive because Liberty City is the only major city in the area. The rest are relatively minor like White Plains or Stamford.

So basically Driver: Parallel Lines?

They didn't even let us have Disney Land in Los Santos.

That'd be interesting to see them go that route as the original sketch for the GTA 4 map did have the intention of featuring most of Long Island and Stamford, Connecticut was slated too before it got cut down to Just NYC, Jersey City and Bergen County.

Wasn't the rumor that it would pull a Driver: Parallel Lines and have two time frames where one part was in the past and one in the present?

And even then, GTA 2 says hi.

Something I remembered recently was the fact that unlike with Liberty City and the state of Liberty being replacements for NYC and New York, Florida and Miami are actually still a thing in the GTA universe, at least in the 3D one. In GTA3, after you help Ray escape from the CIA and he leaves Liberty City, he sends you a message saying "see you in Miami", along with there being a billboard advertising Miami for the airport. Later in Vice City, Tommy has a line in one of the early mission in game cutscenes where he says "Dumb Florida morons" and there's another billboard mentioning Miami, making Vice City a very similar city? Making me wonder if they'll go in on the Florida memes or come up with a new name for the state. I then found a GTA wiki article for Miami, and sure enough they did update the billboard in GTA3 Definitive Edition with "See you soon", which is curious.

I think they didn't decide on the Vice City name at the time, and went with Miami as a "placeholder" of sorts.
