GTA III pretty much defined the genre of 3D open world crime sandbox game, it was groundbreaking, everyone was talking about it. Then VC and SA were both stellar followups, so GTA became the gold standard for the genre going forward and there was always immense hype around the next release. It also helped that every other game Rockstar released in the 2000s was excellent too.The fact that pretty much the entire gaming industry is resting its entire future on the success of GTAVI is both hilarious and honestly sad to see.
Again. Having never played a GTA game before, what is it about this series that makes it apparently such a holy grail for the entire medium, to the point that other publishers have their fingers crossed for its success?
And heck, knowing that no matter what the naysayers say, nor all the warning signs, that the general public will still propel it to huge heights, why does this series garner such mainstream ultra-success?
I think 6 will be their last. The online component will become even more of a milking parlor than GTAVO, and I would bet money on the fact that they really want it to be a live service game and are working towards making that happen. They already know they have many dedicated whales and they have had plenty of time to observe how Fortnite makes their money.
