Hey, at least they bought that one dudes fix for the load times..
I feel like they already knew what was causing it and didn't bother to fix it so that they could push more shark cards.. More time spent loading means looking at advertisements and thinking about just how much time you're wasting waiting for the seven minutes to connect. When it came out that someone fixed it and how easily it was fixed, I believe that they didn't have a choice because then there'd be no excuse for such poor load times.

couterpoint: if they knew it would stop people from accessing solo public lobbies they would have fixed it immediately because that's far more likely to push someone to buy a shark card than advertising.

I wonder if we'd have GTA VI by now if Shark Cards didn't exist.

Not trying to downplay Red Dead Redemption 2 or anything, but it feels like Rockstar's been coasting on those things.
fuck rockstar, let's make our own

every pedestrian will be chris, adf, rika, and boogie2988, and we'll have destructable buildings like in Mercenaries

and every building is 14 branchland ct (every car will be son-chu, etc)

Its been nearly a decade since launch, so yeah we'd most likely see a 6- but then they found out how easy it is to milk money from retards with microtransactions.

Even when we see a 6, it is going to be tainted by how much online shit they are going to cram in it.

While they have been coasting on it, I don't think we'd have GTA VI by now even without shark cards. I'm pretty sure RDR2 was a development nightmare. And I'm going to assume with most of the OG's leaving and the rumors of high turnover rates within Rockstar Studios that producing anything is probably a nightmare due to the scale of AAA game design now.

They're not the only studio that has had development of games slowed to a halt thanks to 4k graphics and shit, they're just the only one who apparently found a cash cow while they take their sweet time.

I agree we wouldn't have GTA VI by now either, but I think we would have gotten an announcement trailer by now if they didn't have Shark Card cash coming in.

It's been ten years, but I always thought GTA V seemed like it was announced earlier than it should have been. Didn't Take Two have some lackluster sales that year or something? I know DNF and LA Noire was an issue due to how much time and money it took developing them compared to the sales...

But with Shark Cards they basically always have a fall back for the board/investors so no need to announce shit earlier than expected.

I for one am not optimistic for Rockstar's future games, losing one of the Houser brothers, Lazlow, hell didnt Leslie Benzies quit too? Anyways, if Online's a taste of what's coming in terms of gameplay and writing, next GTA might be the first real disappointment in the series

I wish GTA V/Online didn't take off the way it did. Even before the success of Online, V felt lesser compared to IV with interiors, activities, character development and mechanics.

GTA Online should've stayed a niche novelty like Red Dead Redemption's online. Hell, it could've coexisted with GTA's core philosophy of satire, freedom, storytelling and fun. So much potential lost for money.

Never forget:

GTAV Story Mode Updates. For those ready to jump back into the story of Grand Theft Auto V, we have big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor's action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas.

Benz was fired, the Housers turned on him, Rockstar fired anyone loyal to him, and others quit after seeing it go down.

This may have been why GTA V single player got crippled but Benzies was the fuck who made GTA Online, so IDK

GTA Online at launch and GTA Online just a year and a half later (after he was fired basically) feel like completely different games.

Also Benzies last interview outlined a very different plant for Onlines evolution. He talked more about how his ultimate goal was map expansions and such.

I don't think it's fair to blame him when it's obvious they went a completely different direction with Online once he was out of the picture. (which was basically almost immediately after launch). And I wouldn't blame him for GTA V being crippled. I'm pretty sure that was a result of Dan Housers madness at the games being more "down to earth" and somehow blaming the physics of GTA IV instead of his story not fitting in with GTA playstyle at all.

What's the story with that guy, anyway? Did he lose his marbles?

The Housers were the first "get into games because I can't get into Hollywood" guys.

They never actually made a secret of it, they just gave so few interviews that a lot of people didn't notice or care at the time because the games were fun. But the Housers have always said it was their dream to get into music and movies I believe.

IIRC Sam Houser is actually getting into music now, and Dan basically kept making the games more and more like movies as the technology improved because like all modern AAA rejects that was the actual dream.

I'd bet good money Dan leaving had something to do with Take Two prioritizing GTA Online so much. I'm no game analyst or anything but I've seen some people make a compelling case that RDR2's entire story has a lot of subtext in Rockstar Games being taken over more and more by Take Two.

We just need more money Author!

I mean, there is an entire backdrop of the "old way" (single player) dying in favor of a money obsessed corporatization of America (Online Microtransactions).

And if that didn't convince you, let's not forget that it's heavily implied the the gang considered themselves modern day Robin Hoods who would uplift and help the poor...until a character named Strauss came in with a profitable yet immoral loansharking business that would directly hurt the poor people they once uplifted and directly lead to the breakup of the gang and the death of the main character.

(Reminder that Strauss Zelnick has pushed microtransactions over single player content that has directly fucked the consumer while greatly boosting profits, and that all of the OG's from Rockstar have now been fired or left the company)

This is retarded.

Makes me wonder how the next GTA will turn out without the "aspiring film director" influence, aside from being yet another microtransaction bonanza.
