Gravity Circuit NES retro Mega Man style action platformer

Nice! I've had this on my wishlist for awhile now and wasn't aware it released. I'll have to wait til next week to actually buy it, unfortunately.

My one misgiving about the game is that the colors are really dull and muted, especially when you compare them to the old mega man games. However, the gameplay looks fun enough that I can forgive some ugly colors.

mighty number 9
Enjoy the game!
Mighty Number 9 looked trash from the second we got to see actual gameplay. This one actually looks like it'll be a blast to control.

Looks a lot like Shovel Knight, which is a compliment. Capcom doesn't make Mega Mans often enough, so the market will solve the supply problem, just like Stardew Valley filled the gap in quality Harvest Moon games. These IP holders really have no fucking clue what they're doing or what they're sitting on. Is it so hard to limit dev teams to, like, 8 people for costs and then release modest successes? There isn't a single sensible manager in the industry apparently.

What's crazier is not even farming their beloved IPs out to willing, competent outside teams. I'm sure IntiCreates would be glad to make more Mega Man games while Capcom remakes Resident Evil for the next decade.

Get the team that made the retro style Bloodstained games to do it. They'd do an awesome job and those games are fantastic.

Welp, I finally got the game fellas. It kinda rules. Much better than Mega Man 11, which I actually still did enjoy.

Movement feels really smooth, and the level design has been great. My favorite one I've done so far is the music level. That one was really creative and had a lot of neat obstacles and platforming challenges. I really liked the boss too. She was hard enough that I felt satisfied finally beating her, but not so hard that I wanted to decapitate myself with a chainsaw.

My big issue with the Mega Man franchise is that all of the games feel very samey. The gameplay is basically the same. The level design is basically the same with a gimmick level messing with gravity, a level set in the sky with airborne enemies, a level set underwater, a level set in a factory with crushers, a level with disappearing platforms, etc. Other franchises are guilty of the same thing but aren't as blatant. Like, most of all Castlevania's have a level set in a clocktower and a level set outside of the castle that you need to get XYZ abilities to transverse the castle in the Metroidvania ones. It's a big reason why I like Megaman 6, the romhack Minus Infinity and X4 and to a lesser extent X5 because the gameplay is changed up. You can play as Zero in X4 and it's a different experience and the same applies to X5 despite feeling very copy/paste.

I think Gravity Circuit might be the next Shovel Knight. Let's just hope the devs don't go woke.

You're definitely not wrong about Mega Man. I think that's the reason mainstream consumers got Mega Man fatigue and stopped buying the games. But to me, they're ol' reliable. Whenever I want to play a platformer with tight controls and good level design, Mega Man is there. There's very few of them that I'd call genuinely bad games, although some are definitely better than others.

I think that's inevitable with long running series, especially for simpler genres. The problem is when they're too aesthetically samey, I think the DKC trilogy did a fantastic job of making each game feel fresh despite basically playing the exact same each time. Simply switching up the theme can do wonders, that's why Mario Sunshine is my favorite 3D Mario, the tropical design makes it stand out.

As for them going woke, is there any sign of that?

There's no tranny bullshit or any politics in the game as far as I can tell. I think that guy was just referring to how Yacht Club, the Shovel Knight studio, went full woke and donated a significant amount of money to the BLM scam.

It doesn't affect the quality of their product, obviously. I understand why some people won't want to buy their stuff after this, but Yacht Club makes great games and that's more important to me than nigger or tranny charity scams.

Oh. Yeah, I'm still looking forward to Mina the Hollower but now they won't be seeing a penny.

Yes we know, you're a Megaman fanboy that thinks the franchise is untouchable and you just want more of the same every single year. Despite the fact that there are long running franchises that do change things up and have been mostly successful such as (already mentioned) Castlevania, then there's Contra, Mario, Sanic (kind of a bad example but the point stands that they don't just remake the same game over and over and over), Metroid, Doom, and others. Some franchises can get away with doing the same thing over and over and the NPC fanboys will eat it up like there's no tomorrow like those Pokemon games.

On the subject of woke shit with Wayforward, they're doing a remake of Clocktower and updating the story. There's also a tranny in this promo video:

Plus I thought the last DLC for Shovel Knight was dog shit.

I know there's bad Mega Man games, especially plenty in the X series, so I don't know what you're even talking about. Contra all play the same, dude. 2D Mario & Sonic games are pretty samey too, they didn't need to reinvent the wheel, so they didn't, just like Mega Man didn't. Pokemon has certainly stagnated (and become shitty in other ways).

That video is hilarious lol. That tranny is such a joke especially after that somewhat pretty girl, such overwhelming disparity.

You hear that everyone? All the Contra's play the same! No changeup whatsoever!

FFS KONAMI GIVE US A FUCKING STEAM PORT/RE-RELEASE ALREADY!

Yes, it's a dog shit game but it's still different and serves my point.

And I didn't even mention Contra Force (which maybe counts) where you could pick multiple characters and the PSX titles that -while bad- still changed up the gameplay. Not to mention that Super C removed the pseudo 3D over the shoulder levels from the original and added top down levels.

Nothing too personal but do not question the Contra franchise, nigga.
