Greek Island of Santorini evacuated ahead of possible eruption - One of the great volcanos is threatening to blow

im retarded, can someone explain to me what happened?? that must have been loud, in person
Sorry, I was being a spazz, this is an unrelated eruption. I just love the boomer going, "HOoOolyy Smokin' Toledos".

Santarini is being hit by a ton of Earthquakes, and is basically built on an active volcano. Things are looking interesting, needless to say.

no, i mean like the loud noise at the end of the video. did the volcano cause this or

Praying for the Gayreeks safety, and for the volcano to not reach here 🙏.

Edit: nvm, it's much closer to Crete, I hope those niggas turn out alright. News are still psyched about the earthquakes, and possible shockwaves that can reach here.

Land rise confirmed at the Santorini Caldera

Be careful watching this chick; a lot of what she's saying isn't verified or substantiated. She rambles to cover her lack of knowledge on whatever she's making a "documentary" about.

EDIT:

Geologyhub is a much better channel to follow for information on geology, in particular volcanic activity around the world. This video, posted twenty four hours ago, addresses the uplift on Santorini:

Another video from Geologyhub. This discusses the magma intrusion and the tectonic nature of the earthquake swarm:

IIRC the winds over the islands are from the north west, so any fallout will most likely travel south east, across egypt and the middle east, before turning north east toward the iranian plateau. I expect the eastern med and possibly Italy will be fucked for flights with even a mild eruption, but western europe will only be severely affected if things go to absolute shit.

This is getting really bad, pretty intense. The land has risen a lot.

Beyond the dick-veins emerging, you should stop feeding your island volcano with virgins for a while now

It depends on how much gasses the volcano built inside. It's mostly water, CO2 and hydrogen in various quantities.
If volcano is letting off steam, vapour and so on, it's safe. Once these things start building up, it gets dangerous.

It is no different than a grenade or an artillery shell - pressure inside rises so much the steel container bursts.
The issue is, due to the nature of things, artillery shell has much less material to contain the pressure than a volcano.
Such gas bubble has basically an entire mountain holding it down and once lid is off, gasses escape with enough velocity to be faster than speed of sound, causing an explosion. It has weeks to recharge the pressure vessel.
It activates on basis that the pressure destroys the encapsulation holding it. Once the event starts, you may get a jet of hypervelocity gas going straight into the atmosphere or it may rupture so intensely that it blows itself up and leaves a giant hole and torches everything in 10km radius with a pyroclastic cloud.
This isn't the typical military explosion where the bomb goes off and it levels stuff.
There's enough gas inside the volcano to basically replace air around the entire island with something equivalent of satan's hot fart.
Leave alone the energy to raise the entire island 1m up.
If you've seen construction trucks working entire day to just move a pile of dirt you have to appreciate how much energy is suddenly being delivered to this system.
Tsunami related event to something like this is equivalent of dropping a nuke on the beaches. It just sweeps everything away like a giant broom.

If it erupts the odds are it will be small. A major eruption from a volcanos the size of Santorini would today result in a global economic crash without a doubt.

A major eruption of Santorini would be a black swan event which would have a cascade effect globally on everything from climate, to food supplies to economics.

If a major eruption happens financial markets would tumble pretty quickly.
