So right now, I'm cooking up a bit of ground beef to add to spaghetti sauce. I originally made this thread to defend the honor of ground beef sold in a chub package (quit laughing), which Null calls "tube meat" and thinks it's used by uncultured slobs like Amberlynn or KingCobraJFS, but in reality, it's just another way of storing meat, and is just as processed as other case-ready meats. It works in a pinch if it's late and they're out of meat or you're making a big thing where presentation doesn't matter (like chili).

Otherwise, what's your favorite ground beef recipe? Hamburgers, chili, tacos?
 
Bro it's literally just meat put through a grinder. Every beef product that isn't taken as a straight cut is made with it. it's like saying canned vegetables aren't real vegetables because you bought them in a can like a poor person/weirdo.

They all have their uses. Ground beef on its own isn't that good and it can't be mixed with as many carb options. Mixed with rice or beans always works. Steak can be eaten with any vegetable. Ground beef and eggs is gross, steak and eggs is yum. I got a couple of bottom round beefs that I'm going to toss into the crockpot with some carrots and spinach. I don't know if many nutrients will survive so I'm going to put in a lot of spinach. This may end badly.

Can't guarantee it's my number one favorite, but I really like meatloaf a lot. The musician and the food. I do not like ground beef in tacos though. It's great in chili and burgers are very excellent as well.
 
I love to make burgers, either in a cast iron pan or on the grill outside if the weather is nice. Just cooking up ground beef with spices and stuffing them in tortillas to make White People Tacos is a common dinner at my house also. And Salisbury steak is legit my favorite meal.
 
I think you mean this kind of package. It is usually only at some big store like a WalMart purchased with EBT. You can't see thru it to tell the freshness, which is suspect, But with something you cook for hours like chili it probably doesn't matter. 1649042300005.png
 
I make several dishes with ground beef. There's nothing wrong with tubed meat but in my experience it does not make good burgers. The meat is stiff and difficult to shape into patties. Maybe because it has previously been frozen, I'm not sure, but it works if you're making smash burgers.
For burgers i usually just salt both sides.
Taco meat is a favorite. I typically just use a mix. Penzeys has one called bold taco seasoning that is great. The taco bell packets are really good too, and nothing wrong with old El Paso.
I typically buy 80/20 but sometimes it isn't available or the fattier packages are on sale. I usually drain the fat unless I'm looking for best taste. I like to move the beef to one side of the pan and use paper towels to sop up the fat.
An unusual recipe i like is Mongolian ground beef. It is exactly what it sounds like. It's pretty good and a bit cheaper and quicker to make than regular Mongolian beef.

They sell them at almost every grocery store in the States, and every major grocery company has their own unique packaging. They’re similar and they often don’t have the brand prominent but all of them do. The ones at HEB have clear windows on them so you can see some of it at least (except for the highest fat content ground beef).

My most local grocery has a high quality meat department so I never have to buy crap like that tube beef. Granted meat and vegetables (plus some fats/proteins like butter&eggs) are the essential foods as far as i'm concerned so even if you eat low quality meats it is better for you than highly processed food.

You can get better meat in most stores but that tends to cost more and has a lower shelf life.

But for some people it doesn’t matter. You can give KingCobra expensive grass fed beef and he’ll still cook into a hideous abomination. Conversely, so-called “tube meat” can make a perfectly fine hamburger if you cook it at a good temperature and time, and dress it up with normal ingredients like lettuce and tomato as opposed to maraschino cherries and peanut butter.

It might even be almost the same meat in a different package. Any fresh beef will make a better burger if you season it well than some pre made frozen crap. Cobes cooking is an abomination, but this is KF so I think we should encourage the buying of massive pounds of tubed meat so many more horrid cooking videos may be created!

If you take the time to make your own you can cut out the extra salt and still have plenty of flavor. My go-to taco seasoning:

2 parts salt
2 parts cumin
2 parts garlic powder
2 parts chili powder
1 part black pepper
1 part onion powder
1 part oregano

Tacos are love for your gullet.
 
I like how for the britbongs it's called "mince" and "mince" also means a non-meat sweet mushy substance made out of who knows.

I like ground up cow and I like ground up dried fruit and spices.

I like salisbury steak, meatloaf, farmer's pie, cheeseburgers, meatballs, steak tartare, all sausages, I like it. 80/20 is my soul mate.

I'm drunk again and I'm hungry.
