Here's Enter's attempt at drawing a GA character:

The last one is an excellent example of how Enter can't come up with an original idea to save his life:

  • Informative
Reactions: PixelKnot
(I'm just going to assume this question is most relevant here. If not then feel free to ignore it.)
(Also I'm bringing it back because it was a pretty interesting way of looking at this show.)

So last time, I asked how would everyone in the forum would make Growing Around at least watchable.
Assuming a lot of opinions changed since then, how would you guys go about changing things?
Challenge mode: parodies don't count
Sudden death: Gumdrops stays.

Give the characters actual personalities.

If Gumdrop has to stay, it's just a horse in the zoo that they like to visit.

Make the world kind of shitty, considering its run by people that don't yet understand long division, let alone how to be leaders of cities and countries.

I'll say this: I dunno how you can call something a train wreck when it's not even really built and nowhere near the tracks.

I dunno, looks like quite a train wreck to me.

Not the animation industry, but I do know one of the creators of Pokémon is autistic. So it's not like an autistic person cannot be successful as a creator.

About that...that's actually up for debate even among the most hardcore Pokemon fans. It has neither been explicitly proven false nor true by Nintendo, Game Freak or any other associates. Doesn't help that the main source for this is a book for kids. Though Tajiri is admittedly shy, that is not necessarily an explicit indication, as several other famous people are shy too. I have seen his appearance meeting up with Arino on Game Center CX (the most we'll ever see of Tajiri), and he didn't show too many signs, even abides by some Japanese norms like the shoes thing and the business card giving.

Buuuut this is about Enter, let's talk about him.

Since somebody else mentioned the notion, I'm genuinely curious how Enter N' Crew plan to have this world function.

Kids just ain't gonna be able to fulfill certain tasks that require mature bodies to complete. Shit like strength-intensive manual labor and all.

Characters with personalities that aren't stereotypes. Right now we have the bumbling dad, the sensible mom, the snarky kids, and the "wacky" pet.

Give a better rationale for why the world is run by kids, because it's currently packed with disturbing implications.

Use far less cliches in general. All of the plots we've seen so far have been extremely formulaic and overdone. It's one thing to take a cliche story and turn it on its head, but that takes a very careful hand which, frankly, none of the GA writers possess. They would be much better served trying to come up with something fresh.

In the same vein, better dialogue. Not to sound like a dick, but you can tell that the scripts are being written by someone who is neuroatypical. Dialogue is often very stilted and just doesn't sound like the way people speak, especially kids. I get that they were going for a "wise beyond their years" thing but it just makes the kids sound pretentious.

What is the rationale?

What is the rationale?
According to Nayolfa, there have been two rationales:
1.) After a war started by greed that destroyed 60% of humanity, the adults of this world put the innocent minded children in control in order to keep society from falling again.
2.) A kid who ruled an ancient nation, which inspired everyone else to do the same.

Either way you slice it, it's a stupid(ly cliche) rationale with no real twists.

Nayolfa shouldn't be coming up with the mythology in my opinion. If he can get it that wrong twice, I doubt he could even go for thirds.

I just don't get it. Even from a cartoony "HA HA, LOOK AT THIS WACKY WORLD" point of view, I'm struggling.

It takes us the better part of a fifth of our lifespans to learn just enough to get through high school; all of the real shit like macro-ec and medicine require many more years after that. I just can't conceive how these children are supposed to be capable of running a (presumably) real-world sized human race within a couple of years of education at most.

And the the most experienced individuals inevitably become stripped of their responsibilities and become children themselves. It's just...EHHHHH? *sigh*

This just sounds like a crazy stupid boring concept, and tbh Kids Next Door kind of did it already and they did it much better.
There's nothing exciting about it, like kids run the world but like what are you gonna do with that? Unless they had spectacular writing with great jokes it has no ground to stand on.

Reading their "final draft" for their pilot episode, am...Am I mistaken in taking the impression that trading cards are the world's currency?

Oh my sweet lawdy, and I thought thinking seriously about the CWCVille economy was painful.

It would make some sense if there was a kind of "Flowers for Algernon"-esque effect going on where humans mentally mature at a rapid rate but then lose that as they age. In order for that to work, though, the kids in GA would have to think and behave like adults...but they don't. They act like kids, immaturity and all, and the adults don't get dumber as they age, so the idea of adults stepping down and giving kids control makes no goddamn sense.
