I'm a huge fan of GTA online. When I heard it was coming to GTAIV I thought 'Oh shit, this is gonna be tight' until the modders came in and started shitting all over everyone. I should point out that I play on console so you don't generally see the crazy shit the PC people do but there's still plenty of bullshit hacks that people could pull off. Invincibility where you can only be killed by explosions? Being able to snipe through solid objects? Never miss shots? This was this shit that made GTAIV's online utter shit and had me moving on in the following days.
Now fast forward to GTAV. Why not give it another chance? Well mistake one was not having the Heist's available right off the bat so I played for a like a month and say 'meh, I'll be back for the heists.' So then they finally come out and the modders have already taken over to a degree. We're talking trillionaires running around with the best shit in the game and you're getting picked off trying to cross the street by a fucking jet. People who can literally throw money away because they have so much any new update means they get to go on a new spending spree. It was even sadder seeing people with a online level of 8000 or even higher because go ahead, break the game. I get some people play to grief, I get it, that's a legit way to play. Fuck, sometimes even I grief for the fun of it.
People bitch about shit like the shark cards but I've never once needed to buy one. I've got the studio apartment, the CEO business, the yacht, the bunker...and I earned the money to buy them. And lemme tell you earning money outside of jobs and heists (or even heists, really, because people are fucking stupid) was hard as fuck when the modders were around. You couldn't make a delivery before a jet was blasting you out of the sky or a guy and his armored vehicle came rolling up to smash your ass. But since they punished the modders the game has actually gotten more fun for me. Now people playing are legit trying to earn income because there's more varied ways to make money and for the most part people don't fuck with you because they're trying to make money too.
Not everyone got their accounts blocked, either. Some people were reset to level 1 and all their assets were erased. One guy was bitching at Rockstar for taking away his 117 trillion dollars because now he was being 'forced' to buy shark cards. You've never been forced to buy shark cards. Legit shit in the game is fairly priced. Body armor is cheap, ammo is cheap. Extravagant shit is extravagantly priced because it's supposed to be a frivolity. You don't need a three million dollar golden plane for anything. You don't need an eight millions dollar yacht (tell me about it, worse purchase ever I want a refund) but it's there. The game priced shit you do need realistically because making money for it isn't meant to be hard. Even at level one you can easily make a hundred grand playing for one day. People that are pissed are the ones that lost the ability to do whatever the fuck they want when they want.
