I'm thinking of adding a node to the top of the page (above the Chris boards) that will link to a page explaining what the forums are, its history, and why we exist. My goal is to write something succinct and informative that would help curious guests and long-time lurkers feel less paranoid about the board and its motives.

The topics covered would be:

  • CWCki Forums
    • About
    • Brief History
  • F.A.Q.
    • What is the board about?
    • Who comes here?
    • Is it a trolling forum?
    • Why does anyone care about Chris?
    • Zoe Quinn, Depression Quest, Wizardchan

I imagine the FAQ would be expanded over time.

If people think this is an alright idea, I'll draft something and open it to improvement and revision.

Absolutely, I wrote a discussion FAQ draft a while back but I decided not to post it.
After seeing many posts locked for the exact same reasons, I think it's time for a Discussion Thread FAQ, so please read before making a new tread.

Q: "What will happen when Barb dies?"
A: This is the most frequent question asked on the forums. You are not the first person to ask this. If you make a thread about this expect being bombarded with links to threads asking the same thing and your new thread to be locked. The reality is we don't know what will happen until it happens and asking over and over again isn't productive.

Q: "Chris is such a fascinating person, is it possible to make a documentary about him?/I'm thinking about making a documentary about Chris."
A: Though a documentary about the internet culture that features Chris among others is possible, please don't ask about a CWC documentary here. Thing is, we have every Facebook post he's made over the past year documented and discussed, and many of us have seen most if not all his videos. What will a documentary about Chris teach us that we don't already know? Nothing. If you do want to make a documentary about Chris and you have the time and resources to fly down to Ruckersville to interview Chris, please find something better to do. Introducing Chris to the mainstream audience will fail horribly, as many people will ask why a person with mental disabilities is being harassed on the internet.

Q: Chris did [X]. Is this the start of the [X] Saga?
A: Like the previous two questions, this comes up a lot, though it's more in replies than actual threads.
Couple things about calling something a saga. First, we don't know of something is a 'saga' until either a few years later and it still can be heavily discussed, or if it's something ongoing, but we know it's huge (like the Jackie Saga). Second, a lot of users don't care for the term 'saga'. Saying this is the 'eBay saga' or the 'Facebook Saga' is going to annoy other users.

Q: "I contacted [person once affiliated with Chris]..."
A: Stop right there. Many famous people in Chris's life don't care about Chris's following. Megan has moved on with her life, as has Mimms and Michael Synder. Mary Lee Walsh is busy with her own life, Tiffany has made herself difficult for strangers to contact her, and most of his gal-pals had families to take care of. Leave these people alone. If for some reason any if these people want to talk about Chris, they'll join here (like Marvin and Alec have). Also, please don't share phone calls or emails with people or places that have affected Chris, your thread will be locked or outright deleted and you might face a ban.

Q: "I read a Wikipedia page about [social disorder X] and I think Chris might have that instead of autism."
A: Chris was diagnosed as autistic by doctors. These doctors spent years in formal education dealing with mental disorders. You, on the other hand, spent 20 minutes reading a Wikipedia page. Also, most of us have never directly interacted with Chris nor seen him in person, the doctors who diagnosed him were in a room alone with him. You can't diagnose someone you don't even know.

Q: Why isn't Chris into Minecraft/Adventure Time/Game of Thrones/something I like?
A: Because he isn't, this doesn't need a full thread, which brings us to...

Q: "I don't really have something important to say nor do I have something big to ask, but I do have a random thought or question."
A: Champthom is way ahead of you. There's a Random Thought/Question thread stickied. Go there.

Q: "Aw man! I'm going to post something stupid because it's funny!"
A: It's not that funny and staff will take notice. We have a thread in Off-topic dedicated to saying shit for shit's sake. Get your sperg splurge there.

Q: "What's a 'q-sand'?"
A: A one time wonder for CWCisms, it means a quarter of a sandwich and was used in a Jackie e-mail. Barb ate this q-sand from McDonalds in front of a waitress at a restaurant who told her no outside food was allowed.

Q: "My question isn't about Chris, but rather Sonichu./I'd like to share my Sonichu fanfic/parody with you guys."
A: There's a whole other board dedicated to Sonichu. Go there.

Q: "I saw this YouTube video/read this news article and it made me think of Chris."
A: Unless Chris made the video or was in the article, we honestly don't care. It's actually in the rules to not post non-Chris related things. Slapping Chris's name to the side of an ALS ice bucket challenge video or an article about hoarding does not make it about Chris.

This list may not be or ever be complete. Please use your best judgement for making new threads. And remember, it's ok to reply to thread and not make them.

Happy posting!

I might be for it but I think just linking to an FAQ would suffice

What about closing off the 'update' page once a new post has been made, that way the post is on record (in update), but the discussion is where it needs to be?
