We've already got a well-established gun thread that's been going on for quite a while now, but as far as I've seen, there's not much talk about what things you can put on your gun, at least, not as much as I'd like.
Shooting is one thing, but aiming is arguably half the battle, so since we've got a new board for talking about guns and everything related to guns, I think now would be an appropriate time for a thread on not only optics but other things as well because why not.

Talk about:
-weapon optics,
-weapon attachments,
-attachments for your optics,
-and otherwise any modification you could make to your gun (triggers, Handguards, barrels, etc.)

I'll start this off with a question I've had for a bit but never really had the chance to ask: Does anyone have a good guide on Scope manufacturers? (Not counting LPVOs or Prisms or red dots.) I'm familiar with a few brands like Leupold, Vortex, and Nightforce, but there are dozens out there, and I'm curious to know if there are any other brands I should know.

Maybe boring but I don’t like to modify my EDC gun internals.
I've never really understood the kinds of people who carry riced out glocks as a carry gun, even besides reliability concerns, it just seems like an ND waiting to happen.
The more you mess with and use them, the more comfortable you are. I agree with not messing with triggers/bars/etc. but there are some lesser things what need changing.

i'll recommend the microprism scopes by primary arms to anyone looking for some sort of optic around 300 bucks. they're small, light, and the reticle is much more clear than a red dot if you're like me with astigmatism. i've got an SLX3x, and a 9mm gemini reticle SLX1x is currently on my ARV. just be aware you're not really going to cowitness irons with a 1x.

I'm not entirely opposed to modifying your guns, I think everyone should absolutely put a red dot on their carry gun, and I have nothing against WML's, but when you start messing with stuff like hammer sears or striker springs is when I start getting concerned about reliability. as long as it's outside the frame I don't really care what you do.
And FWIW, I think everyone can get comfortable with any gun provided they shoot it enough, I just don't think it's worth messing with the internals trying to make it "feel better".
edit: i should say that if someone wants to add something like alternative grip frames or grip tape thats fine too.

Connoisseur trigger stuff with edc handguns has almost zero interest to me and seems like a recipe for disaster, but I don't want to shit entirely on it as I do stuff that most probably shouldn't. On my summer carry (p365) only the FCU is original. Slide milled, dot, mag spring replace for +2, grip module swap. Zero interest in tweaking the FCU in any way, it clicks and goes boom.

Maybe unpopular opinion: stock glock triggers (even pre Gen5) are more than fine, good even, well thought out perhaps.

Gonna post here a few videos by a guy called "DeltaThirtyFour" who's made a few videos on zeroing a red dot. excellent production value, I would absolutely recommend him if you need a guide for it.
he's also made a video on ACOG reticles, but it has quite a few good points on reticles in general (geometry, color, etc.) it's a pretty good watch too.

I just cobbled this together in 10 minutes so I can participate in yer thread an not be called a lazy faggot..ok..im a busy faggot. Beat this flightless birds...I'm going to take it to the county range at night to piss them off, because I got thrown out for bumping a MAC..WTF ! I prolly wont because I cant interact w/humans. an some unapproved faggot will steal the idea of a laser level being used. something like this would be tit for a cannon.

For those just getting into Muh Gunz and don't have 300$ to 1k for optics; upgrading iron's with fiber optic, Hiviz or Tritium on the front post of your rifle is a cost effective must. A lot of newer Pistol's already come with them but most AR's don't come with sights at all or cheap plastic "back ups". AK's come with aim at the dick to shoot center mass commieblock randomness. If buying a used pistol you'll have check the zero anyways so use the money you saved to upgrade if possible.
Some Fudds will say Shotguns don't need'em but there's a reason most hunting Shotgun's already come with them but have a 3 round tube so you can find a ton of these used ( just check the barrel for rust ) and put the longest tube you could find or afford to make it combat ready.
I once built an AR for my dad for father's day, He was a 'Nam vet and ditched the Aim point I put on it because the Hiviz front and rear post's with pistol grip light/laser combo were already overkill and added too much weight. He also thought co-witnessing iron's and optics added too many variables and was gay.
:jacewtf:

Apology for double post but on the subject of triggers, for an AR you can't go wrong with Hiperfire Eclipse.
I swapped out my competition AR trigger for this and I can't praise it enough. World of difference, even to other race triggers, and lightyears beyond stock, even on high end builds.

Best gun mod imo if you own a Beretta 92 is the drift pin mod for the hammer spring retention cap/lanyard loop.

Basically there's usually a roll pin in there and you have to kinda 3-arm it to punch it out while also maintaining pressure from below on the cap, but once that pin is out, find a piece of smooth steel round that fits just slightly loose and cut it to size, slightly smaller than the width of the grip minus the grip panels so it is just inset either side of the hole...I used bolt cutters on a smooth finished nail, to be clear, ugly but you never see it. Then you simply put the hammer spring cap back in until the holes across the bottom line up, slide the pin in until it's about even either side, and release pressure. Put grip panels back on and hey presto, now you don't have to spend valuable time beating roll pins in and out if you want to do a more thorough strip of the gun for cleaning or just like messing around with hammer spring weights. Basically the pin will be retained by tension and on the off-chance it isn't, the grip panels retain it.

Technically this introduces a failure point, but I think at the point that your grip panels are fucked up beyond retaining that pin for the tiny percentage of scenarios it might come loose (which involve pressure on that hammer spring retention cap from below) maybe just put some gum, or wax, or tape, or literally any jury rigged thing over uncovered hole and that should keep it in line until you can get new grip panels. You have to try pretty hard to unseat that pin once it's retained so I've never worried about it.

I recently inherited a Remington 1100 from my uncle and have been debating whether I should put an optic on it. It doesn't even have a front sight on it for some reason. My buddy at work suggested I just get a bead sight for it and call it a day. Any suggestions?

How expensive you looking to go?
is it just for occasional shooting or do you go out a lot?
If you're looking at optics you can't go wrong with an EOTech Holosight.
EOTech HWS that I use on my competition shotgun I have no complaints with it.
You can get a mount for a Remington 1100

As with all optics, the thing to remember is you pay for quality and durability.
You can get a cheap optic for a hundred bucks but it won't hold true for long, optics are particularly vulnerable to shock, and a shotgun has more shock from recoil than most things.
EOTech are always top notch I've found, durable, accurate and reliable.
EOTech are expensive though and if you're not shooting regularly or you're on a budget I'd say just get a Tritium sight,
This is like what I have on my Mossberg 590, you can't go wrong and it won't break the bank.

I love my EXPS 3-1

EOTech make the best holographics I've found.
I switched to an LPVO with an offset red dot on my AR but I've got EOTechs on the X95 and the shotgun. I was using cheaper optics but I found they lost their ability to hold a zero after a few hundred rounds, I've never had a problem like that with the EOTechs. Now whether you're better just replacing cheaper ones more often is an argument I've heard but I'd rather pay more for quality and not have to worry about it bugging out on me at the worst moment.

I use my Eotech with with an Aimpoint 6x magnifier. My 50m zero requires a neck hold at 300 and a hat hold at 400. The magic of the hologram under magnification turns my 1 moa dot into a 1/6 moa dot.
