Gun mods thread - Optics, Attachments, and other modifications.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I recently inherited a Remington 1100 from my uncle and have been debating whether I should put an optic on it. It doesn't even have a front sight on it for some reason. My buddy at work suggested I just get a bead sight for it and call it a day. Any suggestions?
Are you using this for trap shooting or hunting? If it's hunting, I'm not really familiar with scopes, but if you're going to do trap with it, I'd either use an RDO or a ghost ring. Red dots are easier to use, but I think you can get the ghost ring down a bit closer to the barrel, depends on what you want.
Either way, I've had good runs with both.

Go back to talking about optics
I still haven't got a good answer for the OP :(

on a side note, I think it'd be funny to talk about this thing because it made the rounds on instagram a while back & had all the cargo cultists shilling it.
ladies and gentlemen, the scopeswitch:

the thing looks so retarded its endearing.
I honestly cant think of a practical use for this thing other than maybe 3 gun.

I'm familiar with a few brands like Leupold, Vortex, and Nightforce, but there are dozens out there, and I'm curious to know if there are any other brands I should know.
Leupold has some cheap options like the VX Freedom. It's a duplex sight 4-12x, runs you 100 bucks. Mine's held its zero for hundreds of rounds now.

Some scope common sense people don't really tell you: your eye is going to be crooked when looking through it. Use a plumb bob, some bright green/orange contractor twine works perfect, and get it perfectly vertical with that and a level on the gun. I have a buddy that installed his scope crooked on a fucking Bergara and wondered why his aim went to shit past 200 yards when he starts touching the turrets.

I really couldn't agree more with hand "tuning" the internals of a life contingent firearm being a bad idea. People seem to forget billions of dollars and billions of rounds are spent making these things leave the factory to eat 99% of all factory ammo ever made as flawlessly as possible. The idea someone would hand file a sear surface to get a crisper trigger in their EDC never made sense to me. Anything I trust my life on needs eat 500 rounds of factory loads and any hiccups I can trace back to the firearm either get's it demoted to guarding my safe from the inside out or returned to factory spec and re-tested.

If the firearm is a range gun my autism always wins, it needs to have the nicest trigger and the 32X50 AO scope, and the tuned trigger etc etc. One of my greatest joys in life is someone handing me a true POS jam-o-matic and and then playing with it with basic hand tools for a week till it eats/ejects everything. I'll be 1000% honest after I build something to what I'd call "perfection" it sits in the safe more than when I was making mods and adjustments. I hate cleaning guns never liked it, this I will blame on my father for never teaching me or being good about it himself.

Love me Geissele triggers
Love me Eotech EXPS3 with a flip
Love me Trijicon RMR
Love me surefire x300 and m600v
Simple as

Also I tossed on some cheap magpul vertical grip for my rifle I had sitting in a drawer. Been doing some barricade shooting and really want the rifle nestled in a bit better.

As much as I love EOTech holosights, I'm insanely impressed with the Vortex AMG UH-1. Not only is it one of the few true holographic optics besides EOTech, but it's also incredibly rugged, has a very generous viewing area, a reticle that I like even more than the EOTech, but you can also typically get it for less than most EOTechs. It even has four night vision settings. I've got one on my FosTech Origin 12 and love it.

anyone like XS big dot sights?
I have them on my EDC. Taking it out for some competitions I pick up the sights easily. Felt more confident to just point at shoot without focusing too much at targets between 7-10 yards. Just when I was shooting a plate rack at 25 yards the entire plate was obscured and I had zero reference I had to have the RO basically help guide me in. Was much easier with a red dot.

The only modifications I've made to my EDC gun (HK P2000) is swapping out the sights for Trijicon night sights, and replacing the awful polymer coated trigger with a Grayguns flat steel trigger. I highly recommend both.
I do not recommend doing anything to an EDC gun that actually changes the internal function of the gun, like decreasing the the trigger weight or reset.
