Since Gunthers still posting old cartoons of DeVelera, a point of curiosity. Is there anyone else in Europe demanding Ireland join NATO? Gunther paints their neutrality as anti American but I'm quite confident in saying no American has given a shit about the subject since 1944 and are happy with Ireland's contributions. (Shannon being a better lay over stop than Leipzig on the way to and fro our wars)

Trump endorsement left me rather shocked. Who is Gunther? An Atlanticist Pro-European neoliberal with interventionist views of a 90s neoconservative. I suppose Trump probably alligns more with his economic views, but the vast majority of his posts are focused on international stuff. In that realm, on NATO and the EU and internationalist interventionism, the Democrats are definitely more alligned with him. Trump could potentially be more confrontational with China, but certainly not with Russia. Really confounds me but it also makes Gunther more interesting.

I guess he is an economist st the end of the day.

Gunther recognizes that Ireland is in a similar position to his own country. It wasn't the Soviets that forced Ireland into neutrality, but they have the same policy. He's hard on Austria so it's only fair to take the same approach to Ireland. I respect it.

I've said it before but Gunther and Trump align more than you'd think in European politics. They both want the same thing, increased European investment in NATO, just for different reasons and on different tacks. Though I read the endorsement as Gunther admitting the Kamala/Biden admin doesn't have a clue what it's doing in Ukraine and even if he disagrees, at least Trump will do Something to end it.

Edit: Though some of that is Gunther's poor English and.. different understanding of the world causing him to rail against Trump in some nonsensical ways. Like his plan to increase NATO commitments from member states so Trump wouldn't get in and demand. increased NATO commitments from member states. I think they had even the exact same figure of preferred spending.

The more I learn about Gunther, the more I find him endearing.
The best part of Gunther is just his complete and absolute zeal, his politics don't matter a lot, but he loves him some NATO. What tickles me so much is he seems to hate neutralists more than he does anti nato folks.

Gunther can comprehend of a alliance which is not NATO. He does not approve, he wishes it gone, but he understands it on a conceptual and political level. It is a honorable enemy.

Neutrals? That, that Gunther cannot tolerate.

Ireland is a marginal power where the main value comes from being a tax haven for corporations within the EU. Uncle Sam sure as shit doesn't care if Ireland is in or not; because they are to put it bluntly, completely irrelevant in foreign affairs. Britain likely would veto the idea anyways and it likely wouldn't be a popular idea within Ireland who would rather go teetotal than fight WITH the British in any war.

Gunther is ready, but Gunther has some conditions! 1729374613961.png

Gunther leveraging his influence to secure a very important follow. I hope Elon does it just to get Gunther more attention.

Gunther gets married and immediately starts openly disparaging leftism and endorsing right-wing policies. Makes me think of that study where married people tend to become more conservative or something.

It’s oddly sweet.
