These exceptional people. No understanding of action and reaction. They think that because they are "on the right side of history" they get to attack anybody they please and nobody will be allowed to fight back. I hope the driver didn't see too much trouble from this.

The thing about the people who were on "right side of history" , is that they knew if they put themselves out in a line of fire they would get hurt or worst. These jackasses think it's a game at the end of the day. What did you think was going to happen? It's not like he went out of his way to harm as many people as possible. He had no obligation to let them drag him out of his car and stomp him like Reginald Denny.

The circumstances of this are very similar to another event involving panicked drivers and screeching protesters getting in their way, only with anti-abortionists instead. What makes you think you have the power over a multiton vehicle to stand in its way and assert yourself?

I'm sure the people who would morally indict the above driver would be more sympathetic for the driver in this circumstance.

Curious as to the legal precedence of this. Can you be convicted of a crime as the driver when it's the pedestrians threatening you and violating the law themselves by being in the middle of the road?

Yes. It really depends on context. For instance, if you backed up and ran over every single person whether or not they were even doing anything, then backed up and ran over them again, that probably wouldn't be considered "reasonable."
