Crime Hacked billboards display 'antisemitic' messages in Chicago suburb

CHICAGO - Multiple electronic billboards in a Chicago suburb were hacked, displaying hateful messages described as "antisemitic" on Wednesday.

The billboards are located off the Edens Spur Tollroad in Northbrook.

According to Congressman Brad Schneider, one of the billboards read, "F*** ISRAEL," while another displayed, "DEATH TO ISRAEL."

Schneider said he spoke with local police and reached out to the media company that owns the billboards, Outfront Media, calling for the immediate removal of the messages and an explanation of how they were posted.

"I am aware of the hateful, antisemitic billboard signs located on Edens Spur Tollroad in Northbrook, one that says "F*$% ISRAEL" and one that reads "DEATH TO ISRAEL." This disgusting, intimidating display has no place in the 10th District, or anywhere in America. It is notable that this sign is located in a community with a large Jewish population, in close proximity to a Jewish day school, at the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot."

As of around 7 p.m., the content on the billboards was removed.

The Village of Northbrook confirmed the billboards were hacked, stating in part, "The sign was displaying a series of anti-Semitic messages and upon investigation it was determined that the billboard company had not displayed the messages. Company representatives worked quickly and collaboratively to remove the unauthorized messages from the electronic signage."

The village went on to say, "The Northbrook Village Board unequivocally condemns anti-Semitism and all acts of hate speech. We stand together with the Jewish community, family members, friends and neighbors. Northbrook is an inclusive community and welcomes all."

Outfront Media gave a statement to FOX 32 Chicago, saying they were aware of the incident.

"Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are aware of this incident. The copy has been removed and the situation is being investigated."

The Jewish United Fund of Chicago said it became aware of the billboards and issued a statement on social media:

"An hour before sundown, JUF became aware of offensive billboard imagery on the Spur. We immediately reached out to Outfront Media to have this offensive imagery removed. The media company believes they were hacked, and they have opened an investigation to understand how this happened and who is responsible. The police are at the scene. We will keep the community updated if there is more information to share," the JUF said.

The hacked billboards also read, "Paid for by Mr. Beast LLC." FOX 32 Chicago has reached out to Mr. Beast for comment.

Northbrook police say no further information was immediately available and the investigation is ongoing.”
 
Imagine having to censor the word "fuck" in "Fuck Israel" yet "Death to Israel" was fine to show.
Can't lie, it made my head hurt seeing those two side by side.
On one hand I get it, profanity etc., but it seems incredibly odd that we blur one as it's rude and show the other despite it calling for outright murder.

The accusation has lost a lot of its bite, and eventually even the "ackshually it's anti Zionist" types are going to stop giving a shit about making the distinction.
I think even the 'anti-Zionist' thing is just an effort made by mouthpieces, allies of Israel and probably just ordinary Jews to dance around the fact that this is something the Netanyahu government or at least numerous hard-liners really believe - opposition on any grounds to the polity of Israel is a kind of anti-Semitism. I remember this article by Benjamin Kerstein (bear in mind this is 12 years old now) where he makes plain that anti-Semitism isn't just hating Jews, it's a currency of realpolitik:

Jews are, in essence, held indistinguishable by a court whose proceedings are perpetual and whose verdict is known beforehand. Under such circumstances, there is no criticism, no evidence for the prosecution, which does not aid in the process of an unjust trial before a monstrous court. Which is not, put simply, anti-Semitic.
It is either subjectively anti-Semitic, in that it consciously and intentionally aids in this injustice; or it is objectively anti-Semitic, in that it unconsciously and unintentionally does the same thing. I've always said, the left lives in a world where, if they put on a shirt with YOUR name on it? And then crap THEIR pants? It reflects poorly on YOU.....
 
The corporate competency crisis continues. Like most contemporary American companies, you can almost bet that Outfront Media's C suite and board is a geriatric nursing home full of alzheimers patients that vehemently refuse to read the writing on the wall and realize that their careers are over and it's time for them to retire. You can almost bet that nearly all of their day-to-day ops management have long ago been exported to pajeetland. And you can almost bet that they've got an HR department full of bluehairs who couldn't tell the difference between a qualified resume and a Twilight novel filling their ranks with scammers and mediocre pavement-pounders.

We continue to see companies, more and more, get caught up in operational failures such as this. And they'll go back and do their analysis and their audits, and make their patches on top of patches on top of patches, and shuffle around the shit-stained chairs a little bit to make it look like they "remediated". But it will keep happening. Again and again. Because they refuse to fix the root of the problem.

Do you think that the Jews will eventually come to regret their decision to tie "antisemitism" with any sort of criticism of Israel? I feel like we are already at the point where the only people who still say those are the same thing are either Israeli dual citizens or the people getting paid by AIPAC. The accusation has lost a lot of its bite, and eventually even the "ackshually it's anti Zionist" types are going to stop giving a shit about making the distinction. I think that's already largely happened, those people aren't really bothering to even muster that one anymore. That SHOULD be a really clear sign that it's time to back off, but I have a feeling the Jews won't be able to help themselves and they will double down.
