Hacker News - It's not for hackers and it's hardly news.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
This is a bit of a crossover with the Open Source Software Community thread. So, recently, the SerenityOS project got in some hot water with trannies for refusing their malicious testing of the waters. This is old drama recently revived, and covered very well in that post. I recognized one of the avatars mentioned. Because of that, I decided to go looking around in the post history of Corbin (archive) a little bit better. I found something mildly interesting:

NixOS 24.05 released Lobsters.png
This guy casually references Wikipedia pages in an attempt to categorize the argument of his opponent, with very little provocation. What a dipshit.

By now, SerenityOS has fallen to the tyrannical tranny horde. I'm not going to weep for another UNIX clone, but by one guy. Anyway, the guy behind it recently got a lot of money to continue working on his Ladybird WWW browser, the part of SerenityOS that actually interested plenty of people, but this one problem is enough for them to cry endlessly, as my screenshot demonstrates. These comments are at the bottom of the archived page:

Also interesting as how Lobsters is twelve years old as of yesterday. Since this post allows users to fellate Lobsters, and each other, it's currently the most active on the front page, as can be expected:

Hey folks,

Happy birthday! Lobsters launched on July 3, 2012, making the site 12 years old today.

I'd like statistics on how many users are banned.

I'm reminded of the Canada is a failed state thread:

Lastly, here are some funny interactions I found regarding chinks:

The first comment here is flagged now, but I saved it:

I'm working on another post, but this is worth mentioning. The oddity of seeing nothing about Donald Trump's near-assassination on the front page was odd to me. I performed a search through the Algolia interface at the bottom of the page to find not one but two flagged discussions:
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40957564 (archive)
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40957344 (archive)

There's nothing interesting in either of these, however. It's all the usual bullshit. Someone did, however, point out that Shinzo Abe's assassination was flagged and manually reinstated by dang. That clearly hasn't happened here. I'm reminded of the time dang revived some feminist bullshit with some horseshit like We need to have this discussion. and I'm occasionally reminded of it when he makes odd decisions like this.

Submissions about leaving one's employer is not unusual to see on HN. Usually they are about reflecting on one's experience or complaining about how the culture changed for the worst or stuff, but today there is one where the author attends a "comedy show" that convinces him that because of his work he is the embodiment of evil and makes him to go "naked" in front of the entire audience. After this experience he felt sick after going to work again so he quit his job. What is this evil that he is doing at work? AI. Well not actually, he is merely a technical writer for Vertex AI (Google Cloud's AI / ML platform).

What is it about AI that makes retards like this absolutely deranged?

They absolutely do not understand it. They think AI is some magical box which outsmarts every person on the planet. Sprinkle some doomer humor into it and they get severe anxiety just by thinking about the words "Artificial Inteligence" because they are sure it will make their job worthless as soon as tomorrow. Which, for a technical writer at Google, is one of the few cases where it might actually replace him. Especially at Google, they love to cut costs and implement cheaper but shittier solutions as long as the money comes in.

Doomer humor has been the most successful psyop I've seen to this day, many young people are unfit to do real work because they think it will be over and they have a hundred silly excuses why,

It doesn't matter what he's doing at his job. It's not even like the sketch has anything to do with him personally. He was more like a prop, based on this description. The name of the comedian sounds non-white too.

I am no fan of Gen AI, but from all of the things Google does, that was the final straw. Not the censorship of the Internet, the political manipulation, the anti competitive practices etc. It's like realizing working at the Murder Factory is bad because the coffee machine was broken.

Also I am totally repulsed by this need to certain people to make their lives feel like a movie. Either be honest and just admit you hated your job, but don't do this "oh, unfunny women comedian convinced me to quit my job, in the middle of a recession."

If the guy actually quit the job because of the woman clown... then who is the real clown now? lol

This is the referenced comedian.

This is my one thousandth post, fellow kiwis. Here's to a thousand more. This will be a basic roundup of some stuff I've seen lately. I keep track of FoxfordComics on Twitter, and saw him mocking someone. Who? Paul Graham, surprisingly:

I think this speaks for itself. I never did get around to documenting how Paul Graham was targeted by Israeli intelligence months ago. I suppose I'll get around to it eventually, if no one beats me to the punch.

Here are comments about another article Paul Graham wrote, and I think these speak for themselves too:

about 15 years ago the joke was, `cat etcservices mail apply@ycombinator` as... Hacker News.png
I believe this joke precedes Ycombinator by decades, but I could be wrong. Calling the Internet file-based is dumbfuckery, however, unless one wants to make the term even more meaningless by twisting it so that a packet can be a file. Some people really just go around all day repeating platitudes excusing the current state of the world, don't they?
