Half Life Alyx and Boneworks - The two VR games that dare to be different. Okay maybe just one, but still. AKA Floop’s shill thread.

Is VR the big gay?

VR is far more limited than normal games and that's kinda the problem with it. If you use your upper body to turn and a control stick to move or some kid of point and click teleport/grapple thing it's worse controls than a traditional game. Movement has always been the major factor keeping VR in the dumps, you can have the outwards environment be a 1:1 for what's happening in the game and that's kinda required for immersion. Basically the layouts for the levels need to be the actual space for the room. Picking shit up in VR is also still janky as fuck.

Unless you have something like a floating sphere where you can run and turn in place in real life, the whole point of immersion is ruined. Mechanically it does not function well for extended periods of time. VR needs to be as seamless as reality in order for it be fully realized.
I just want VR you use a regular controller with. The immersion would all come from the visor. Maybe a wii-mote type thing too.

Come on guys this game is so huge they suspended all development on TF2. Like, no one is working on it now.

Only 4 hours until the trailer drops

I'm curious to see what will happen to valve/steam if the game is an egregious flop.
it’s absolutely going to “flop” in the sense that it probably won’t make back its development cost in sales, but I think Valve is also more or less expecting that. They know that the vast majority of Steam users aren’t going to drop several hundred bucks on a VR headset just to play this, I doubt they’re expecting this to be a massive financial success.

That...doesn't even sound remotely likely. Either way, we'll find out in two hours
Valve has a work on what you want policy, where employees can just flip flop all over the place on what they choose to develop.
Needless to say that has not been generous to TF2. The number of people working on that fossil changes every day.

They've suspended TF2 development for years. The last quality update we got was like 2013-2014. I just wish they hired some new people to work on tf2 because at least the game would get good updates.

So, a prequel in VR and with none of the people who made the other 2 good. Yeah this isn't gonna go well. It's just gonna flop like Artifact.

What do the employees even do at Valve?

Wait there's only a thread on this now? Didn't they already show footage at the index announcement? Have I been Berenstain'd again?

What are you TALKING about?
Shit themselves and do nothing wish they were working at Google instead of Google Jr.
Valve still makes games. They just never finish them.

What are you TALKING about?
When they first showed off the valve index, I remember seeing footage of Half Life VR and them talking about making the new half life in VR, people were talking about it for a while. Now looking again, I see that this is the official announcement thread so any prior discussion would have been somewhere else but it's weird seeing people react like this is the first we've heard of it.

So I'm wondering if I've slipped through into the Berenstein, Mandella died in prison universe where they never showed that footage previously or if everybody discussing it just missed it earlier, or is just responding to the actual details as opposed to the sparse gameplay shots we had before. I also admittedly only skimmed like the first 2 pages of the thread so somebody could've pointed it out earlier in the week, I don't really know.

They never did that, you’re thinking of something else. What did it look like?

Like half life 2, but in VR? I'm not getting this mixed up with some shitty vorpx footage of HL2, I know that much. I can't find it now because all the results are from within 2 days but I swear to god I had this shit saved somewhere, I'll try to find it.
