You know what I kind of want to see now? Trespasser VR. That was a game decades before it's time and I think we're finally reaching a point where we can make it live up to it's creator's lofty dreams. Doubt it though :(
Anyway, on topic, I've been kind of interested in VR stuff for a while but haven't had the money to get into it apart from some stuff on my phone. Headaches have never been an issue for me either. In Alyx is available on either of the two big VR sets I'll consider buying in, but if it's going to be an exclusive somewhere, I'll probably give it a miss.

Don’t buy Oculus if you don’t want to let Zuck watch you pee.
This is what people were afraid of when oculus was first bought and now it’s real.

>the reason why showcase of hl alyx on TGA got canceled is because these retards STILL have only teleportation as way of movement and it will be pure embarrassment to show this after boneworks release

Holy shit, i REALLY hope that retards at valve who gatekeeped "never move the player" bullshit will be fired and blacklisted.

HL Alyx will hopefully be more of the same but better in some aspects, especially since Valve apparently took influence from it.

It won't be even closest to. Boneworks has been public for awhile, but mongoloids at volvo only recently realized that they will look like total retards if they won't slap at least some of what bonowerks have in their game. That scene in the trailer where Alyx is moving trash on the shelf to find shotgun shells exist only because of boneworks influence.

I read that in Tyler’s voice and chuckled

Boneworks is trash, and alyx's source VR initial release is not going to have multiplayer.

Fucking idiots don't seem to realize VR is ripe for a replay of the golden age of modding from the 2000's, give me Zombie Panic, Sven Co-Op, Natural Selection, ANYTHING ffs.

Vr is mired by 99% of trash "games" that are just shitty tech demos or singular game ideas sold for 30$, fuck off with that shit.

Thinking about old multiplayer HL mods updated for VR... one of my favorites was "Battlegrounds", the American War of Independence mod which had the combat revolve around melee and muzzleloading muskets. That would actually be pretty interesting in VR to have PvP bayonet fights and doing the complicated, multi-step loading process for single-shot muzzleloaders.

Does Tyler have a legit source here because if not I'm calling bs on this one.

Smooth/shift locomotion has existed for quite some time in the VR world and you'd expect movement to be one of the first functional things in development

He's way too excited right now and taking any info he can as potential truth - even going so far as to claim the cancellation was so sudden that a member of Valve was already coming off the plane when it was announced - verified not true by said Valve member, who was actually there to be a representative on the chance they win any awards

from what I remember there wasn't any valve game even in the voting, so for fucking what would they get a possible award? artifact?

the rumor that HLA only had teleportation and hardly any physic gimmicks is a few days old actually (so to me it sounds more he's just rehashing shit to present something as "news"). apparently the boneworks devs visited valve, tried HLA and ridiculed the "never move the player" design to hell and back to the point the valve devs got super butthurt and revamped it completely to not look like idiots.

whatever the truth is, remember: valve was the company that pushed roomscale, their whole tracking setup is build for it (even if you don't need it). only to then shit out vive wands which doesn't even have sticks and still drag down VR years later since you can't afford not to support the wands.
their fix? to spend fucking years on controllers that break before you can say "300 bucks". but at least it got pinky tracking!

Boneworks isn't trash :,^( take that back meanie

But yeah you're right most of the VR landscape is trash atm and I just hope that boneworks and alyx are enough of a foot in the door to get more people in, convince AAA devs that VR is worth more than just a broken port of an existing game or a 5-minute ""experience,"" and bring down the price of some of these indie tech demos.

Well, boneworks already seems to be, let's hope gaben doesn't botch the alyx launch and kill VR forever.

Boneworks looks amazing from the little gameplay I've seen so I'm not gonna spoil it for myself. There's TONS of interaction with shit that at first I assumed were static props like in a fucking PS2 game; an era which we have evolved backwards from in quality.
The rumours about HL:A do appear to be true however as gameplay footage unintentionally shown in the BG of another video showed teleport only.
I am agree valve has held vr back by their cowardice but so has every other company who refuses to support proper movement.

There's actually a VR version of tf2 with hotdogs that supports rocket jumping and tons of cool shit so all those old mods might come back but I'm not sure how well they'll work in vr if they require a lot of jumping about.

I mean, HL:A was stated as a solo game. Have they said that the Source 2 tools wouldn't have anything for multiplayer? If anything like Source 1, people will find a way

Got another hour of Boneworks in and I think I can pinpoint exactly what I hate about it. The game expects you to play by rules that just don't translate well. You see an object. You go to pick it up and it absolutely spazzes the fuck out. Why? It's a big thing, you have to PRETEND it's heavy for the physics to look decent. Same goes with your body: even if your arms don't match up with the character's arms, you have to pretend that they do and act accordingly to get shit like climbing to work properly.

Also maybe I'm just retarded but the aiming just feels terrible. I've tried H3VR and had some very decent shot results, but I always feel like I'm off no matter what weapon I use. Excluding the spray-and-pray Mac-10, of course.

That's Meat Fortress, a playable environment for H3VR. Fun, but a different engine that is, according to the dev, unmoddable.

I don't like the way that Boneworks just kinda snaps, and grips to everything. Beyond that and the climbing it's pretty enjoyable. I do notice the shooting problems(having played H3 and other titles myself), but they aren't anywhere near as bad as some games(FO4 for example).

That teleportation though. Surprised they let this footage get out there with BONEWORKS and all.
They show off smooth locomotion too.
Teleport movement will be great for people like critikal.
He played Boneworks and couldn’t get past the tutorial because of how motion sick he is. Granted, he sets his height two inches taller than his actual height, and some people said that makes a difference, but still.

I can't even with that video. How the mighty have fallen...
