Half Life Alyx and Boneworks - The two VR games that dare to be different. Okay maybe just one, but still. AKA Floop’s shill thread.

Is VR the big gay?

While I'm generally optimistic about the future of VR, it desperately needs a killer app. There have been some pretty nifty releases, but VR hasn't gotten its Halo or Breath of the Wild yet. Valve needs to make good use of their dragon's hoard and time to make sure this isn't a flop, as they're holding the banner whether they want to or not.

VR has some quality proof of concept games.
For gun autism, you have the labor of love that is H3VR.
For melee combat, you have Blade & Sorcery and Swords of Gargantua.
For Physics, you have Boneworks.
For ERP, you have VRChat.

The basics are there, but the mass interest isn't there yet. If it flounders, it's still a good piece of exercise equipment. BoxVR is top notch.

You know what, done.

Game's not out yet so it could still theoretically surprise, but this is why I held back on judgement for HLA. See, I watched all of HL2's videos as they trickled out before release, and nearly all of them were jaw-dropping in one way or another due to either graphics, technology, or premise and creativity. Even for someone like me who played Half-Life without getting obsessed and buying the headcrab plushie on release, there were still plenty of reasons to be excited about HL2.

That was over 15 years ago. Like it or not, Valve as a company has changed since then, from a gaming company to a games distribution platform first and foremost. The magic and imagination that was there in those trailers was not mirrored in the trailer for HLA. How could it? They have the possibility of innovation here with more fluid VR movements, but apparently it may not be up to snuff against a game like Boneworks. Contrast that with HL2, where nearly every bar was being raised.

I would like another renaissance to occur here, even for something so overpriced as VR, but the last decade or so has shown just how reliable it is to pin all your hopes on brand loyalty so I'm not jumping into it with reckless abandon, even for a company like Valve.

[EDIT]: Might as well take this moment to reflect and ask everyone which HL2 trailer was your favourite at the time? For me it was either the Coastline or the Striders trailers that were the most impressive. I guess Coastline was my favourite because it made me habitually check every other video right up to release.

Someone on 4chan contacted Crowbcat and it seems that he probably will be shitting on new hl, lmao.

No Man's Sky, in keeping with the tradition of being No Man's Sky, was buggy shit when they first made it VR, but is now solid and a pretty fantastic experience. The Boneworks people also made Duck Season, which I highly recommend. It's not a terribly long game but it's very lovingly crafted. As far as Alyx, I'm getting it for free so I'm definitely going to play it. Not expecting it to change my life, but willing to be pleasantly surprised.

LOL! They removed the cremators from the story and replaced them with

wait for it...

ANOTHER GENERIC HUMANOID ENEMY BECAUSE THAT'S ALL VALVE MAKES NOW.

Good. They didn't deserve the cool early 2000's sci-fi concept art they were left from the original guys.

Wait what? Who are the cremators?

>He hasn't read the HL2 beta leaks
You could’ve at least linked to the faggot’s video.

The game might play like shit, but damn. Looks nice.
Seriously this is too much detail.

Probably an unpopular opinion but while I think the Cremators looked cool as hell, they in no way fit in with the retail appearance of HL2 and would not fit in future installments without a massive reconstruct.

That being said, leaked screenshots look really fucking nice. Valve not releasing any new information or press releases despite their March 2020 deadline is pretty much confirming a delay though

I think it’s fair to say the graphics will be photo realistic. If you showed me that photo of the zombie without any context I would think it was a real corpse.

How? They just look like specialized Synths, like Stalkers, but with a face mask.

@Coolio55 might be right about Tyler McVicker being a faggot, but those anonymous sources don’t lie.
