Half Life Episode 3 Script "Leaked" - Main Writer Marc Laidlaw makes his own ending

Never liked Alyx but now? omfg I hate her, how can she leave Gordon to die like that and go with G-Man for no reason?

Also what I get from this is that after Half-Life 2 Episode 3, we were supposed to play as Alyx (hate you, I don't know if I can call her names in this forum because I just created an account to comment this, so I don't know if it is against the rules, but my will is to be disrespectful to her! Damn) for the Half-Life 3 game and maybe in Half-Life 4 comeback as Gordon.

if this is the script for Episode 3 or even for Half Life 3 I am glad that this never happened because I hated it so much, I almost cried, Gordon is my childhood hero, Half Life is my favorite game of all time and that Alyx and G-Man treat him like this? DAMN YOU WRITERS! DAMN YOU ALYX! DAMN YOU G-MAN! DAMN YOU VALVE!

I am out, sorry for the rant.

Half Life 3 will never be made and Valve knows it. Mostly because there is no way to conclude the story of Half Life in a satisfactory manner.

I think that, with hindisight in mind, Valve made the combine seem to powerful to ever be defeated. Thats why I actually dislike the 7 hour war as a plot framing device to show how much the combine means business. It does work actually TOO well at establishing the Combine as a threat because think about it, Half Life 2 is all about just getting rid of their "local" representive government on Earth...what IS going to happen when the big boys upstairs decide to come around? Realistically there is no way Gordon and crew can stop the combine, ever. Hell, Marc's version of HL 3 kind of embraced that, outright stating that the Combine couldnt be defeated and it was foolish to think otherwise.

This is what happens when you establish how powerful your villains are a bit too much, it comes to the point where you gotta create a macguffin to give an actual chance for the heroes to stop them. There was the machine in Dead Space 3 and The Catalyst in Mass Effect 3...Hell, in the latter, they did show that the reapers CAN be defeated with enough firepower and numbers thrown at them (individual reapers at least). We havent been exposed to the Combine's true power (only hinted with stuff like the 7 hour war), so one must wonder how HL 3 could ever finish this story in a satisfying AND logical matter (because pulling a solution out of your ass would be so stupid...).

What people truly expect from HL3? Gordon somehow defeated the Combine and get the girl at the end? The trilogy is bound to not have a happy conclusion because a happy conclusion couldnt be done in a logical matter that connects with what 1 and 2 established. Marc's HL3 ends with Gordon being to a future so distant that none of the shit with the combine and the resistance is even remembered anymore...an extremely bittersweet ending but I honestly couldnt see HL ending as a story in any other way

And Valve knows this and at this point, I suspect they refuse to do HL 3 because of what I stated. They dont need to make it out of finantial need and much less creatively because HL 3 would never match the espectations originating from the long wait time. And HL Alyx was only made because they needed to sell VR headsets, dont try to deny it, the game was just a giant VR selling ploy and to get HL coonsumers to shut up about HL 3 for a while.

Thats just me tho...I could be wrong if Valve decides to release 3 the very next day after I post this.

Yeah, the ending to that game sets up something going down between Gordon and the G-Man.

It even saves Eli from getting his brains sucked out, Valve's got plans since that makes this ending obsolete.

You didn't read my post now, have you?
I did, I disagree with your assessment that it's just a giant VR ploy. I would agree with you if it was only playable on the Index, but since you can play it with every VR headset out there, it kinda kills that conspiracy.

Then you kind of worded it wrong. Its fine to disagree with me.

Edit: Alyx did what it was meant to do, motivate more people to buy any VR headset so that is far from a conspiracy. Besides, all my reservations with HL 3 (no matter which version) being at least a disavantage story telling wise are still valid.

Half Life joins the ranks of Chrono Trigger and The Matrix as shit that shouldn't have had any sequels.

In hindsight, HL 2 should have taken a different route or at the very least changed a few things. Feels like this whole alien empire thing kind of came out of nowhere (and it did) and the "foreshadowing" of it in 1 was stuff that COULD have beem interpreted as that in retrospect, again, lets not act like the valve writers were thinking THAT far.

Edit: Also I love how people act like the G-Man is building up to anything. I dont think people got it but its the same writing style from Lost. Keep everything so vague and answer mysteries with more mysteries as a way to make people THINK you have the answer when not even you have it.

It's possible that they could make a story with a interdimensional/interstellar faction that stomps out the combine, let's call them... harvesters, because that's really hacky. No, let's change it to "Space Marines" because that's basically my idea. It takes a while for them to show up, they're not as numerous as the combine and they have a lot of work to do across the multiverse, but when they arrive the combine will have to sit down and have a thunk.

A possible story hook could be that local nexuses are able to hint towards the location of more sensitive places so if things get dicey the combine central command will sever all connections to a place like earth to protect themselves. The purpose of the local combine will then change, their presence is suddenly pointless. It could hint to a lot more going on in the multiverse in the same way the existence of G-man does.

Honestly Half-Life 2 had a decent ending, the problem was the fuckery about adding Episode 1 and 2.

Had it simply ended on the base blowing up, killing evil beard guy and giving humanity a little hope then that'd be fine. Without Episodes 1 and 2, Alyx simply dies in the ending, giving it a bittersweet feeling of knowing she sacrificed her life for that one little bit of hope.

A hypothetical Half-Life 3 could have happened long into the future and wouldn't even need to be tied to any of the current stories had they not expanded on the immediate aftermath in Episodes 1+2. Now everyone wants to see how the resistance actually fights against the Combine, and it'd feel cheap to immediately timeskip far away from that.
