IMO cinematic mod is bit cringe... personally im a strict Mmod enjoyer, keeping the game down to his roots which is in the gameplay and physics aspect, and leaving the graphical masturbation to Crysis and its ever green joke...

I think Valve did confirm he is still alive (and was even meant to be in the "Ep 4" that would have Adrian Shep.)

Its unlikely we will ever see him again even in a HL3 given how Jim French (who also voiced Bill from L4D) passed away so they will likely never bring him back out of respect. Its hard to imagine a natural way to bring him back in the narrative anyway.

And yes, I know Robert Guillaume passed away and he was re-cast in HLA but Eli is a far more important character and you can tell they were trying to do so in the most respectful way possible. Even then, Robert's voice and style is difficult to replicate, dude just sounded like an old sweet heart.

Much of the mechanics in HL2 including the AI is janky by today's characteristics but I never had Alyx die. Not even in that Nova Prospekt shit you all keep rabbiting on about.

Maybe you were a bit more proactive in the parts where you had a companion. I basically let Grigori do his own thing in Ravenholm while I'd go front and throw barrels at whatever I saw so I thought I could sort of let Alyx do her own thing at the start of Entanglements. I was quite shocked when I was told my mission was terminated.
