I’ve never been both more excited and let down by a concept. I loved my steam controller while it still worked, though.

I think the Steam Deck is a cool idea. But the performance isn't that great, and the battery life is shit. I know it's a handheld and nothing like my gaming PC that gets 60fps in all the games I play. I have watched a few videos about it, and I think I will wait for the newer better version of it if Steam keeps going with it. I already have a Switch.

It's a bit silly to think that a newly formed studio composed of people with no experience in video games planned out a whole saga. The first game wrapped up the story in a bow, and just left a cliffhanger for maybe a sequel if it sold well. 2 less so, but about the same. But then people are dumb enough to believe Kojima's lies and think Metal Gear was a 25 year plan.
to be fair, you don't need to have it all planned out, just leave enough hooks and options in, which is easy to do from the start. tabletop GMs do that shit all the time.

Anyone feel like sharing and recommending mods?

I will start with They Hunger trilogy

Really good considering it came out BEFORE any of the expansions. Holy shit this thing is ancient but also really well made.

The funniest shit is watching Steam/Valve simps saying that this time Valve will finally be able to reach into the console market.
The Steam Deck is another disaster that Valve will quietly shelve once eyes arent on them for long enough. For the masters of inovation they love to pretty much copy pre-existing ideas and put their logo on it.

Neg rate me but its true

The absolute best mod ive ever played has to be underhell. It's so good I kinda think its better then black mesa. It's starts out as a swat shooter before turning into something else, but I really want you to go in and experience it blind.

Pro tip, get the hell out of the house at the beginning as soon as you can. exploring its story is optional.

I actually think the Steam Deck is a cool idea. If valve can actually make a version with better hardware that will make the performance better and increase the battery life it would be even better. But I am not buying the current Steam Deck though. If they do decide to abandon it and start selling them dirt cheap, I might buy one just to screw around with. But I will wait and see what they do next because I heard Valve has plans for an improved version. The performance and battery life just aren't good enough for me to buy it. At least not at that price. Then you have the fact that not all the games on Steam are compatible with it.

It is a cool idea but I think people enjoy more the idea of a portable gaming PC than the execution because, lets face it, we are still not there yet. Without mentioning that playing with these consoles in the open will make you look like an immature idiot, especially since people will just assume its the Switch from a distance and even upclose. What you gonna do? Correct them that its a Steam Deck and hope they actually give a shit?

only if you think handhelds are consoles, and by that logic mobile phones are consoles too...

Then you have the fact that not all the games on Steam are compatible with it.
steamdb lists over 200k appids, good luck waiting for "all" of them be supported (never mind you're not gonna play "all" of them anyway).

That's the only thing that makes the switch worth buy is the portability. The games are good, but the portability is the selling point. I don't take my Switch outside anywhere. I don't really give a shit about what people think but my main concern is it getting stolen, or some nigger trying to rob me and possibly shoot me for a handheld console. I don't need to be playing video games all the time. I am not saying I wouldn't sit in public and play RDR2 cause I sure as shit would. If anyone wanted to know what it is I would tell them.

The batteries in these things don't last long enough to be taken outside anyway.

Underhell was a ride, and I'm not sure the driver knew where he was going. It even ends on a sequel/expansion hook, but I doubt it will be continued since the director's last posting from 2016 mentions getting hired at a dev studio and working on multiple projects there.

At least it was an earned upgrade over falling upwards like Hunt Down the Freeman's director. But like I said once, he got hired by Activision, the jokes write for themselves.

im fairly certain he still wants to make it, but yeah life happens. Hope he's doing alright for himself.

Thoughts on Half-Life: Alyx?

Its good but I feel like all of those 10/10 scores were a bit just happy that we got ANYTHING HL related after 2 after all these years. It also reignited hope that we would get HL 3 at any second now since it ends on the HL 2's ending being retconned and it promises that the story will continue from there

Tho in my humble opinion I feel like the reason for this game's existence starts and ends with VR headset sales. Valve saw the opportunity, are exploited the adoration fans have for their brand and HL and produced this "prequel/spin off" that is practically a main entry at this point. It did work but I feel like the glamour period with Half Life Alyx kind of ended and fans are starting to feel like we have been duped into getting all hyped for this brand once again when the HL 3 craze was starting to finally die down.

HL Alyx is a good VR game but one that was born out of complete and total corporate benefit instead of actually wanting to finally release a HL 3.

Bold of people assume Valve wasnt kind of writing this whole series on the fly. I even dare say they didnt have the whole plot of Ep 1 and 2 figured out when doing OG HL 2.

In retrospect, people kind of gave Valve too much credit, at least in the aspect that they had all of this planned out by connecting it with Portal and stuff. Its clear that maybe Valve wasnt really here to tell a story but only to move tech forward.
I mean if you look at HL1's whole 90s x-files conspiracy theme and HL2's beta and how it connected to HL1, also considering that Marc Laidlaw is a writer I think yeah Valve might have had some plan but as HL2 retail came out they just said 'meh fuck it'

What connections did the HL2 beta have to HL1 story-wise? Far as I'm seen HL1, HL2 beta, and HL2 all have rather major differences.

They had ideas but people act like they had stuff ready all the way to the end game. Which is insanity.

I haven’t seen a lot of people talk about this, but G-Man is drawn in Gary’s murals in Half-Life: Alyx. His appearance looks rather strange compared to the other humans drawn in his murals. Most notably his eyes. He’s at the bottom middle.

I’m so glad other people know about this mod. Arguably one of my favorite mods of all time, up there with Nightmare House 2. I know the main complaint of the mod is there’s too much dialogue and the cutscenes are annoying, but I personally think it’s part of the charm. Helps me connect with all the characters more and appreciate them. Also gives the game such a cozy vibe, makes me appreciate the safe rooms so much more. Such a shame the mod ended on a cliffhanger, too. Mxthe probably had some crazy shit planned out, especially since the first couple chapters of the Mod feel like they can be mods on their own.

Cool SFM cutscene remake I found.
