Freeman's Mind is elevated with foreknowledge of having played these games yourself. The Pirate part in HL1 is way more enjoyable knowing what Ross was doing to even come up with such a fun in-between episode. I think you're robbing yourself from that experience but it's probably interesting enough to not touch the episodes. Freeman's Mind won't even be finished by the time we really get HL3. It'd be funnier if there's still one more episode till it ends but HL3 is suddenly released/gets announced so Ross hurries the fuck up or slows down more.

>the year is 2070
>Half-Life 3: Episode 2 has finally came out
>Ross is still on Half-Life 2: Episode 1

On the topic of HL1, I've recently picked it up while on sale so that I could play Crack Life's anniversary campaign. I've already played through OPFOR and Blue Shift along with some Sven Coop a couple years ago, so should I finally play through the original campaign or try out a few more mods beforehand?

Only ones I've thought of trying out so far are Field Intensity, Azure Sheep and Half Life Extended.

Play half-life echoes, It's probably one of the most impressive mods mad for half-life its not that long as well. You could finish it in an afternoon.

I decided to take my own advice from a few posts back and am now playing Halo which I've recently felt bears a strange resemblance to Half-Life 2.
I've barely scratched the surface but I am definitely interested.
The first level is the epitome of bad mid-2000's level design with boxy cramped corridors but then you crash land and it starts getting interesting.
I don't like having a woman constantly backseat driving all the time though. How the hell did dudebros in the early 2000's put up with this crap? I've also noticed the objective marker of doom but it's rarely appeared so far so fingers crossed that it doesn't interject too much.
Haven't warmed up to the shield system yet. Feel like I have to retreat to cover too much but I'll begrudgingly admit that it's occasionally been useful. The radar is cool.
Haven't got used to the weapons yet. Need to experiment more. Pistol is fucking good so you really want to keep it but I know that there's more fun synergies to be had. I like the homing shots of the needler in theory but they usually don't go where you want or plink off of those round shield bastards. Sniper is nice. I really need to use that charged alien pistol more because I know you can vapourize the regenerating shields of the higher tier covenant and fuck them up.
I hate the 2 weapon system but I know that the game is balanced around it.
If I'd played this in 2001, I probably would've gone bananas. There's an impressive amount of things going on. Nice and open maps with plenty of options. Cool vehicle mechanics. Hard mode is actually hard, too.
Story is just sci-fi gibberish so far but I think I'll live.

I played HL2 up to the end of Water Hazard today and proceeded to stop. Man does Black Mesa East kill the momentum. Very fun level followed by 10+ minutes of cutscenes as you can't do anything and a tutorial on the gravity gun.

I usually just use the console to skip directly to Ravenholm.

I'm one of the 5 people on planet earth who must actually like BME, if anything I thought it should've been longer, at least canonically. Would it be insane to say I kind of wish there was a time jump there, or maybe have Eli not be so retarded as to think that Freeman was just gonna like, escape, from the combine who are less than a mile away?

agree, it cuts up the action a little bit to give you time to breathe before dropping you in ravenholm

It's amazing in first-time playthroughs and the lorebits are great, but for someone on their 100th replay just wanting to shoot things it is a bit of a momentumkiller. Sometimes I do play through it again for the atmosphere, other times I just want to get to using the sawblades on zombies as fast as possible.
