Unrelated doomium I found out about recently from the hiatus era of HL, the guy who did the Sacrifice Comic for L4D and the early TF2 comics (Michael Oeming) wanted to do a HL comic but it "wasn't meant to be"

I always felt it was odd that every other main IP got a comic but HL got shafted, and now I'm sad it could've existed and been made by the best comic artist at Valve. FML

P.S. He also wrote and drew a full issue of a Midnight Riders comic that just never got released? Also possibly a L4D2 comic if some art of Rochelle he made is anything to go by.

Valve had so much in the bag and just choose to...NOT to cash in on any of it.

- Their TF2 cartoon pilot went nowhere because they took too long to make it because of their perfectionism
- BARELY afforded enough of a fuck to finish the TF2's comics
- Only had one Left 4 Dead comic when there was a lot of potential to explore the L4D2 crew and maybe even characters we never have seen before.
- Had no Half Life comics or any sort of media outside of the games. I know they'll argue that its because HL is about Gordon's POV and thats fair but that is officially broken with HL Alyx so either that explanation is nonsense or Valve changed their minds. In either case, they could have had something awesome following the events of HL1, 2 and in between but noooo.

Im sure there is more, much more and we arent even talking about game creation here, just simply refusing to explore their IPs to their true potential outside of games.

Afaik they shopped this around to various networks and the cost per minute was like 20x what was considered economical and thats mainly what killed it, I remember quite liking it but I don't think there was any version of it that would have been good and also profitable

I think it has less to do with sticking to just Gordon's POV (see OP4 and BS) and more so just that HL died and came back to life at the wrong times.

EP2 came out and EP3 died just as Valve got serious into making outside media for it's games, and by the time Alyx rolled around Valve had stopped making comics and official SFMs for the most part, only like the JI video and Comic 6 came out during Alyx's development, and I doubt any of those types of media were ever really considered during it. The only true outside HL media to come out is that one advertisement for OSX support.

It would've been a damned if you do and don't situation, imagine how much higher the copium would've been then if Valve just dropped a HL comic in the hiatus era. Imagine how high it would be now in this schizoid era.

At the very least, the community has made their own contributions, not that that really makes up for what could've been.

I know that there's a fan made comic called Place in the West that's set in the in-between era I but I have no idea if its good or not. You also have stuff like Theparrygod's animations which are pretty good.

As for the L4D comics, I would like that Midnight Riders comic to come out one day if possible, and A l4D2 comic wouldn't hurt. Especially if it would give a proper conclusion to the Southern crew instead of "maybe they lived or not" ending that The Parish gave us.

If you think about it, it's been nonsense for much, much longer than that. Opposing Force came out in 1999 and Blue Shift came out in 2001 and both are basically canon excluding a few of Gearbox's artistic liberties like Race X. Canonically, Black Mesa was still blown up by a nuclear warhead and that was in Opposing Force where you play from the POV of Adrian Shephard, and Barney Calhoun was basically introduced by Gearbox in Blue Shift, which was later adapted by Valve in Half-Life 2. Of course there's the entire conundrum about whether or not Barney is the one knocking on the door during Gordon's train ride or is the guard by Anomalous Research, all because of the "about that beer I owed ya" line.

So like, Valve didn't gave that much of a fuck about being consistent with the HL canon to begin with. Same with their "Half-Life games are meant to push game tech forward" bullshit excuse when they had Gearbox do those DLC's that were nothing but extra content without any major revolutions. The biggest "revolution" they've done was adding the HD models that everyone hates nowadays anyways.

I kinda wonder what the point was to have a SECOND alien invasion going on.
thank god they made it non-canon so the combine wouldn't have been the third invasion
The plot has always been secondary in HL games.
the ideal way to do game plots, because of how games work
fuck fnaf niggers who only think of games as substrates for their autistic lore

Interesting.

There are two unknown AppIDs there. I'm hedging my bets: it's a tech demo and HLX.

Id laugh my ass off if the Congress thing ended up somehow delaying or accelerating the half life 3 announcement
>be Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve
>testifying before Congress because apparently he's the problem with radicalization online
>Dan Clancy from Twitch sits across from him, staring daggers
>Charlie Kirk assassination hanging over everything, but Congress is more interested in gaming being the problem, somehow
>get asked about 'Steam's problems with online radicalization'
>"Uh, I don't think I can solve world problems, but I did bring a trailer for something"
>suddenly, the lights flicker
>room goes dark
>Congress starts murmuring like they’re in a stadium
>a projector kicks on, massive screen showing…
>A LAMBDA
>every politician gasps, even the ones who don’t know what a video game is
>ominous shot of Gordon Freeman walking through an ice environment
>some funky techno music kicks in
>G-Man shows up, says the words "2026" before fading to black
>one congressperson starts fist-pumping
>another looks at their colleague like “Is this the radicalization they meant?”
>Chairman Comer look around in abject confusion
>everyone starts to realize:
>there's no actual solution to online radicalization
>but at least we got Half-Life 3
>one guy in the back starts yelling “I VOTED FOR THIS"
>Gabe casually leans into the mic, “Preorders available now.”
>Everyone starts screaming
>unprecedented bipartisan support follows
>somehow, no one even remembers the original topic of the meeting
>congressional approval rating hits an all-time high
>Gabe’s legacy sealed forever as the ultimate hero of the people

I actually liked the addition of Race X because it further demonstrated how much of a clusterfuck Black Mesa had become by that point.

Not to mention BM getting nuked makes way more sense if you assume that Gordon killing the Nihilanth didn't stop shit because there were still other hostile aliens exploiting the situation to join the fun on Earth so the US government just said "fuck it" and blew the whole thing up.

Nothing... Gerbox wanted to make own alien design, i think the pit drone, voltigore kinda fits in the xen fauna the rest i don't care, i also miss the displacer cannon its a neet concept, choosing between massive dmg or resupplying health and other ammo type...

Some artwork that is "'""""SUPOSEDLY"""" for HL3 from a Valve artist was leaked on a Chinese forum, then to /v/, then to Reddit

take with grain of salt.

I bloody well hope not! Alyx going under the uglification process is pretty depressing.
I am no longer joking about the release date of the Krystal mod. I want it I need it.

I don't think its Alyx being uglified but more that there is an implication that you'll be seeing a much older version of her and Grdon due to time travel shenanigans.

In fact, EP3 concept art seems to allude to this as well, some of these arts seem to push that the "myriad versions of ourselves" mentioned in Epistle 3 meant older versions of Gordon and Alyx.
