I'm still huffing that hopium that it comes out soon, but I don't know why people think Valve would make a big announcement at TGA or something. They don't need to. A random employee could post "yeah, HL3 is coming out next week" in the Steam Community forums and the entire planet would know about it within 30 minutes.
I’m freebasing Hopium like a junkie freebases black tar heroin right after a long stint in rehab.

I'm going to lock in my bet now.
Half Life 3 will be announced on the 26th of November,!

ok nevermind, I’m not huffing THAT hard on Hopium.

If HL3 came out, it would be the first time in my adult life I will actually call in sick to work to play it.

Same here. I want to believe, I like how I feel about the pieces I've seen lining up, I've got the same feeling as when Alyx was approaching. That said, its also intermingled with excitement for the Steam Frame, so there's probably room for false alarms.

As for dates? I'll lock in December 3rd, choosing a 3 date is the exact kind of "why not" behavior Valve will pull. What I won't lock in is what drops on the 3rd, they could just full reveal trailer with gameplay, or start off the 12 days of Gabemas just to fuck with people.

Either way, I started replaying Half Life 2 and the eps, just in case. Been a year since I played a bit of Route Kanal, and like five or six since the eps. Every time I replay them though, I'm impressed at how well it holds up, decades later.

I won't go all in but I think it's sorta likely, either way I'm indifferent at this point. Half Life was THE franchise that got me into PC gaming back in the day, but now I've waited so long, and HL:Alyx has shown they intend on a completely different story direction, what with the time travel and all. I'm sure I'll have a good time playing whatever eventually comes out, but I highly doubt it will stick in my memory like the first and second games did. My only question is why would they showcase a steam deck alongside the two new products, despite not releasing a new deck? Just lots of weird things that point to SOMETHING being announced is what's peaking my interest.

This is what really worries me, well, not me, more so I worry about the ones who haven't played Alyx.

People are going to be in for the cold boot (pun intended) when they find that HLX will be a sequel to Alyx, NOT Episode 2 or HL2, in more ways than story. I know they will since that very much seems to be the common consensus of what HLX will be like.

I suppose I do feel a bit bitter about it, that they would choose the VR title to move the story forward that most people quite literally cannot play. but then again, if they made Alyx a pure prequel with no story insight I think we'd be having a much more hostile conversation about Valve right now. I guess it's a damned if you damned if you don't situation.

Kinda reminds of that one /v/ screenshot where they have all the desktop icons for the HL games and Alyx's is just a YouTube link, because for the (I'm assuming) other 95% percent of fans who haven't even played the most recent installment that's just what it is.

I would like to think that Steam Frame will offer a cheaper (official) way to play Alyx, but I doubt it. Its a shame that Valve doesn't have any other VR projects in the works, especially something like a HLVR2, because, Alyx rocked dude, and it'd be a shame if that's the last singleplayer VR game from Valve.

Hitting on that 280 proof Eritrean hopium juice box like my steam marketplace listings depend on it, I'm on day 3,813 of waiting for that fuckin' beer I'm owed.
I am the Gman 'cause I'm a fuckin' g, man, I saved you from that timeline where Tyler McAssburgers had sex with Alyx Vance, you can thank me later.
Been waitin' on HL3 so long I wore my cheaple sex doll out venting my fuckin' anger with anger fuckin', if you're lookin' for the shame go look at TF2's community artwork.
This shit ain't EVERYTHING to me man.
Plot twist, Otis is the main bad guy the whole time, Adrian stans had their chance, they got their game, HDTF 90% off next steam sale, go buy it when SNAP checks come back.

I am of the firm belief that the reason why they did the twist they did in Alyx is because of Laidlaw releasing the Epistle 3 plot synopsis in 2017 and it covering broad storybeats that they probably would've still gone for had they not been publicly revealed. If he hadn't done that, I don't think we would be where we are now. He's also expressed regret for releasing it, specifically saying it's made life harder for his friends at Valve. They want to surprise players, and that plot outline being published made it difficult for Valve to do a sequel that surprises people set after Eli's death and entirely about the Borealis set in the Arctic, so they had to find a way to move the plot in an entirely unexpected direction to achieve the outcome of something new. I still assume the Borealis will play some part in this story though, there's no way they drop it entirely without some kind of explanation.

So how many abandoned internal builds does Valve have of HL3 at this point, 4? 5?
IIRC, the big ones are the HL2:Ep3 build from the late 2000's that had the Weaponizer and Ice Gun and blob enemies that was shelved to ship Left 4 Dead (and showcased in the HL2 documentary from last year), then the HL3 that was briefly in development between around 2013-2015ish. Then they went to HL:A, were able to actually ship it, and started HLX, which itself is also now in final stages of development (and has been for a seemingly good long while).

So that would be 3 total main ones (lol), two of which abandoned, one actually looks like it's going to make it. Here's a video about the in-depth history of HL2:Ep3 & HL3 that I remember being pretty good.

Not a bad prediction. Me thinks this could be the next copium date.
I picked the 26th because it's right before a Holiday and right before Black Friday, I feel like if Valve is going to announce HLX this month, which is what McVicker was saying before changing that window to include the first 2 weeks of December, they would do it then.
i was going to :optimistic: you but this bravery is commendable
If I get even one thing right I'll consider that a win, but I have the dream of getting everything right and being raptured by Gaben himself.
On his last stream, McVicker said that the week of Thanksgiving very likely won't have anything. His information is still that Valve is aiming for an announcement in the calendar year 2025 but there's zero concrete date, only potential timeframe.
It's not that I think McVicker is full of shit, but he's said himself that he only has a window of time from Nov 18th to Dec 12th, so unless people aren't giving him a date but are telling him when it's not being announced, how could he know one week is more likely that the other?

I only speculate the 26th because of Black Friday, but the obligatory "Oh Valve doesn't have to announce it at any one time, blah blah." line always applies. They can drop it on a Sunday at 7am and it'll still go crazy.

I just assumed Valve people might be on vacation or off during the week of Thanksgiving and that'd be why? Idunno.

Yesterday was HL1's 27th anniversary and a week since the hardware reveal, so that's why.
Going to repost this video spoonfeed
got it
still i think its silly to wait for it, cmon its been 20 years
its time to let go

Well at least Im a winner this week as I won the "Fell for it again" award on this. I was convinced something was going to happen this week mainly because Valve actually did something by releasing new hardware. Guess it was nothing and it was just a bunch of autists on reddit working themselves into a frenzy.

BUT... I mean we have seen all the evidence that there is an unkown game being developed by Valve that is referred to as HLX. This probably is HL3 or whatever they are calling the next HL product and it is likely coming out in the next year. Its just Valve can literally announce this however they want whether through a tweet, a TGA trailer, or an infomercial on QVC at 1:00am on a random Tuesday. Trying to predict what ol GabeN is going to do is impossible because he can do whatever he wants.

So everyone chillax. Reinstall and playthrough the old games, and HL3 will be here soon enough.

I hope they bring back the blobs.
