Since there doesn't appear to be a thread for it, ITT we discuss Hannibal-related things, be in the new TV series, the movies, books, horrifying mpreg fanfiction, etc.

What do you guys hope to see in season 2? I hope Bowie decides to take the role as Hannibal's uncle, and I also really want to see more sexy tension between Hannibal and Gillian Anderson's character. That and more Beverly.

I can't watch any of the new Hannibal stuff. Sir Anthony Hopkins will forever be the be-all-end-all for me, but I do enjoy Manhunter on it's own merits.

Mads is actually really good in the role, though be warned that he's pretty much the anti-Hopkins. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just... different. I'd still recommended it. I'm really interested in how he'll play Hannibal after he's locked up.

I have to agree with The Dude here. Anthony Hopkins will forever be the man I see as Hannibal Lector.

I'm trying to get my husband to read the books, but he doesn't seem interested. When I read them, I can almost hear all the dialogue said in the form from the actors in the films: Jodie Foster as Agent Starling, Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal, Scott Glen as Jack Crawford, ect.

I was really, really dubious at first but I gave the show a chance and now it's the only thing I'll use my cable for. I could write an essay of gushing but I'll say that Mads fits the role very well, and has the Anthony Hopkins seal of approval. For real. I don't like comparing the two since they portray Hannibal at two very different points in his life. What I like even more is they transition the show into the modern age very well. Lounds's journalism has a much more immediate effect on the story and it becomes a cleverly done plot point later in the season. Also, also the cast is hilarious and I don't have a twitter but I'd stalk their pages and---okay, I'll stop...for now. :asperchu:

Oh, yeah, one more thing:

HOPKINS CONFIRMED FOR SEASON 2

SWEET JESUS AUGH YEAH

Last I heard Hopkins was offered a role but declined. This is great news, especially considering he's getting up there and all.

But yeah, I side eye the fuck out of people who refuse to watch the show just because IT'S NOT ANTHONY HOPKINS BAWWW. Mads has directly stated he doesn't just want to play Hopkins!Hannibal for various reasons, and so far I think he's done an extremely interesting take on the character. I'm really excited to see how he'll handle it when Hannibal gets caught.

In other news, have a gif harvested from the wilds of tumblr

Necro'd like a motherfucker! Sorry, but seeing as how a whole new season passed and a third is in progress, I'd like to see what everyone thinks of the story thus far. Personally, I enjoyed the second season, with Michael Pitt as Mason Verger being a major highlight. I didn't watch Boardwalk Empire, but I'd seen Pitt before in Funny Games and enjoyed his performance in that, so I was excited when I learned that he'd been cast as Verger. He didn't disappoint. It's a shame that he didn't return for season 3. The new guy is okay, but he mostly just mimmicks Gary Oldman's performance in the movie, while Pitt put his own spin on the character. It also sucks that they cancelled the show, despite the positive reception and good ratings. I hope they're able to take it to another network.

I don't know, I enjoyed the original movie but I think the TV show is just too complex for my tastes. Apparently the general public thinks so as well given its lackluster ratings. I tried the first 2 episodes of season 3 but that's as far as I got.

Dino de Laurentis (producer of Manhunter and Hannibal Rising, co producer with his wife of Hannibal and his wife produced that t.v. show) coerced Thomas Harris into writing Hannibal Rising because he wanted new films and a dumb tv show.

Harris was about to lose his film rights to the character, he didn't care, but de Laurentis was salty that the film version of "Silence of the Lambs" made so much more money than his movie Manhunter

(Edited because I'm dumb)

Season 3 of Hannibal was a complete shitshow. There's the "flashback" with Hannibal and Gideon which is completely dropped, the sniper bitch that serves nothing to the plot other than to be a deus ex machina, and then there's the red dragon, who was sloppily shoved into the show.

The season 3 wasn't supposed to be that rushed. They had the greenlight for an entire season, only for NBC to pull the plug during the filming. They had to wrap up before they intended to, otherwise it'd be a better paced and fleshed out season.

I thought it was pretty good.

I like Hannibal well enough, but you have to admit it was pretty idiotic trying to take a platoon of Elephants into the Alps.

Man hunter was directed by Michael Mann and not de Laurentis you schmuck.

I love that this thread was brought back from the dead for that conversation .
oh and I watched it recently , that ending of season 3 ! ugh why couldn't we get a season 4 ! I wish NBC could just give the rights to Fuller so we can get silence of the lambs season as well. but that enough about that .

Found and started watching this a little while ago. Season 1 and 2 were great, Mason stole just about every scene he was in. I'm on season 3 now and it is...dull...too much self-mastabatory THIS IS ART crap, and very little in the movement of the story. New Mason isn't as good either.
