Around 9th of May there are plenty of posters and billboards celebrating the victory day, unfortunately a lot of kids there days can't tell T-34 from Tiger II, so this results in some hilarious fuck ups that keep on giving year after year.

Here is a billboard with a background from WWI, British artillery:

these faggots repurposed rasing the flag over Iwo Jima and even colored it into the Soviet banner:

This is our victory!

Here is a billboard "May 9th Victory Day!" ... except that Russian flag is upside down and dude in the background is a Nazi from a well known picture.

"They fought for the motherland!"

except that's a Nazi bomber crew ... I mean technically they did fight for fatherland ...

"I remember. I am proud!" ... with a bunch of photos of Nazis

How the fuck do you see the distinctive German Stahlhelm and go "Yeah let's put that on our poster about defeating the Germans"

I was doing a job assignment in Russia right around VJ day. In the west, most people believe that the atomic bombings was the most influential event to end the war. I do not feel this as accurate compared to other actions such as the incredible effectiveness of the US led sea mining operation which strangled the mainland.

On the Soviet front, many westerners do not know of the invasion of Manchuria by the Soviet land forces. It was amazing achievement where a land mass greater than Europe, involving impossible terrain like the Gobi desert, mountain ranges, swamps etc conquered in a month. 1.5 million Japanese army was completely eliminated.

In the annals of military history, it was simply staggering. At points, tank fuel was airlifted because the action was so successful.

Internal Japanese documents showed that to the high command, losing the Kwangtung Army was more influential than the atomic bombings to many military leaders.

I understand Americans being ignorant because it was not area US forces involved and the war had dynamic events elsewhere.

The insane thing to me was the campaign seemingly unknown to the Russians I was working with, all were former conscripts. This is like Americans Vets ignorant of the island hoping campaign.

Sorry... I am war nerd.

You would expect Ivan to know his own guys when making posters and stuff like that.

Versailles Treaty was exceptional exceptionalism. Then again Europe around that time was full of exceptional individuals in constant dick-measuring contests with one another.
The Romans thought that they could starve the Germanic tribes into submission. Instead the Germanics laid siege to the capital of the world and burned it to cinders.
No lessons were learned.

Versailles is proof positive that Wilson was, in fact, the absolute worst president.

They do the same thing in the USA. There's a guy who gives stock photos and Republicans always get the German soldiers not American soldiers. Trump used one in a picture about American troops.

That is because most of these things aren't made by historians. Its made by graphic designers that literally just google ww2 pics.

Like how they included the STG44 in the Kalashnikov monument. Because the designers assumed the designs were based upon that. Rather then realizing it action is different and its own design family, were convergent evolution designs.

STG44 deserves it's own explanation.

The discussion is as old as the gun forums. On every single gun forum, at least once a year the discussion flares up yet again, it's like a fucking case of herpes, no matter how thorough and well documented the last discussion was, it will come up again, both sides very passionate, yet somewhat clueless about the facts.

I studied a lot of documents in great depth and there is no way that Hugo contributed anything to the "stolen design". However, as the installation goes, it was either a simple mistake or level master troll job, although no one claimed the credit.
