Not a JP fan, but he's fairly insightful if you can separate out the banal observations and the bad-trip commentary. I think that him predicting Ethan's long fall (and rebirth?) years in advance was his greatest work.

He is too stupid, too immature, too protected from on high and too successful to ever even conceive of the notion of just how fragile a position he has been in for the last few years.

Not to mention that he still has his (and his families) millions to fall back on if all else fails.
