The tag's mainly filled with links to The Mary Sue, the promo itself and the show's website, so it's still early days for opinions.

I'm not surprised. As much as I hate to give tumblristas credence, their incredibly schismatic culture and inability to be pleased usually means they know when they're being pandered to. I'd imagine this is why they cling to Steven Universe so heavily because it's purpose isn't its progressiveness. It hits their more primal fancies for cute cartoons; applying progressive values is secondary. That and the staff seem a lot more truly immersed in Internet culture. On the other hand, I get this sense that Gen Zed's staff is detached from their audience, what with referencing things that tumblr users generally don't care about like mainstream celebrities and stand-up comedy. It's no secret that they're pandering, but they aren't even doing a good job.

wow, I've seen bad, edgy jokes, but that's quite something.

People who complain about actors playing roles are missing the most basic, fundamental aspect of acting: that it is ACTING.

Ian McShane is not, in actuality, a whiskey swilling badass saloon proprietor of an old West mining town, or a pirate, or an as yet unrevealed denizen of a mystical fantasy land...or, I suppose, to use a more tumblr friendly subject, Benedict Cumberbatch is not Alan Turing, or Sherlock Holmes, or a dragon. But until the real dragons and pirates show up and start out acting these actors in auditions, we're just gonna have to settle for what we get.

Funny you should mention Cumberbatch; there was a Tumblr post going around complaining about how Smaug wasn't played by a real dragon. Seriously.

It's particularly hilarious in light of the fact that TERFs (trans-exclusionary radical feminists) claim that transsexuals themselves are an insult to women and basically doing the equivalent of "genital blackface."
