I understand the point he's trying to make here, but that's because with Hayden I assume whatever he's saying is about 10 miles to the right of what he's actually trying to convey.

Sarirical comedy can be a very good way of making statements about tough societal issues. In this case Hayden is trying to approach the topic of victim blaming and show how ridiculous a concept it is. However in this case nobody here is actually victim blaming; when the mother is saying "Why him?" what she actually means is "How could my son have been such a monster and done such a horrible thing?". If your argument is then that she would be fine with this happening if it were somebody else's son that had done this then you clearly have no concept of human emotional responc- oh wait, this is Hayden Black of course he doesn't.

If you can't make good satire then don't even try, otherwise you become satire yourself and the whole thing becomes very meta.

There's satire. There's good satire. There's the stuff that Hayden Black writes and then there's the stuff that gets disturbingly meta like what's going on here.

The mother and father of this reprehensible piece of human garbage have shown themselves to be just as morally bankrupt as he is. Both wrote a letter to the judge concerning their son's incarceration. The father said that six months in jail was a little harsh for "20 minutes of action" and the mother is upset that this happened right after they moved and because of it is unable to decorate their new house.

I get shock. I get disbelief. And I get saying something stupid when you're upset while you were trying to say something deep and worthwhile. But these people are so deep in their denial that Hayden's tweet strikes really close to what it feels like they'd have actually said. Hence, disturbingly meta.

You know, I'll make some pretty fucked up jokes at times. In fact, me and some friends used to call up BlackJack's Pizza in Littleton CO (where the Columbine kids worked) and make Columbine jokes for HOURS on end every day to the point where the manager picked up the phone, screeched something unintelligible and hung up the phone. But never, and I mean NEVER would I seriously compare Western, mostly peaceful Christians to a group that believes that they are the catalyst for the apocalypse and are hell bent on destroying the world in the most gruesome ways possible.
