God... the white lapels... it looks horrible.
it's impressive how stupid of a design Alastor is.
you mean to tell me a man who's style and sensibilities in all other respects haven't developed since the 1920s has THAT fuckass bob cut? Viv says she designed this character when she was 13 which explains a lot.
And it's pretty obvious that Vivzie has no actual sense for men's fashion and didn't do the slightest amount of research into the time periods the characters supposedly style themselves after, so every single design she makes ends up being just an iteration on the same fucking template, which from what I can surmise, is:
- spiky teeth
- pinstriped jacket (even though the pants never have any)
- top hats
- bow ties
- stand collars
- black hands with colored fingertips
And because she so completely lacks the ability to set designs apart from each other in silhouette and style (even between suits), her natural way of differentiating characters is to just overload them with superfluous details. People said "everything is so red! alastor struggles to be readable or pop against the red background!" was to add some white to his lapels which don't serve the design in any way whatsoever.
Here's my redesign of Alastor. Everything Viv tried to do with her design, I did better, because I actually know a goddamn thing or two about what a man in the 1920s would have worn, even the haircut.
- Undercut side part, way more 1920s accurate but not less flamboyant, with some beaded rat tails for "voodooeyness"
- white detachable collar and cuffs (as was standard in the 1920s) as well as spats instead of white piping on the lapels
- Black tie with cross collar-pin instead of a bowtie with a fuckass cross-print shirt
- Solid red drape jacket, stripes moved to pants to evoke morning dress ensembles (look it up, lord knows vivzie didn't)
- red db waistcoat with pocket chain.
Also, a vox design. Apparently this guy is supposed to be a 1950s TV presenter so I actually followed through with what a guy of that time period would have worn, a 3 button 2 piece suit with a thin horizontal-striped tie, "tv fold" pocket square and a collar bar. Neat. Simple. Effective.
It didn't need any of the "vivzieisms" and pointless random details to set it apart, only the bare minimum of thought behind the design.
No bow tie, no spiky teeth, no pinstripes, no top hat, none of that.
Highly doubt it though.
