Do you believe that this series will turn to shit?

The new Angel isn't as good as Kovach, which is tragic. I also really need to hear Alastor's voice. Edward Bosco was fantastic as him, and those will be some big-ass shoes to fill.
I feel you. Someone made a thread with snippets of the new VAs singing, and while Amir Talai at least isn’t bad in that regard, he’s going to take a while to get used to. Viv apparently discovered him through his performance of You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.

Oh, that's pretty good, actually. Different, but doesn't sound worse than Bosco, which is a good thing. I'm still waiting to hear his speaking voice before I form a full opinion, but I have less doubts now.

I'm going to still give the first episode a shot since it's been something I've really been looking forward to since the pilot. But recent reveals have definitely dampened my spirits. I especially dislike how Alastor might be more powerful than Lucifer since that's a recipe for making a really annoying character and it doesn't fit with what's previously been said. But it still probably can't go off the rails as hard and fast as Helluva Boss did.

To think I thought this was gonna be the Simpsons or Adventure Time for the 2020s at one point...
:story:
People thought that? I always took it as a replacement to either Drawn Together or Panty & Stocking as it has a similar style and brand of humor. Was pretty excited for it till recent news, plus P&S is getting a season 2, so why watch this.

What I'm specifically referring to is that we're this far into the decade, and in previous decades, we usually get an animated series that tends to set the new standard for other shows to follow. In the 90s, that show was The Simpsons. 2000s was Spongebob, 2010s was Adventure Time.

Even if you could factor in the funny China virus, we're this far in, and we still don't really have a show on that level yet. I mean, yeah, there's Owl House, but Owl House in reality is just continuing what Steven Universe started.

Helluva Boss always felt like some 13 year old watched one episode Panty & Stocking online and decided to base their entire sense of humor around it. I just don't think Viv's shows are replacing anything.

It's both funny and sad that the show was initially praised for its animation when Vizzy made that pilot, but now that the official trailer has come out, it's so inferior to what came before.
Not even the folks on Twitt- oh, right... X is happy about the results, and that was the audience Vizzypop was pandering to, and now it's backfiring.

When even these types are finding significant problems in the animation, it raises questions on how bad the writing will be.
The panning shots are definitely way too aggressive. It feels like a mistake, rather than a deliberate choice

Agreed!

The thing that drew me to the series was that it seemed like a spiritual successor to something like PSG. Given that adult animation has moved far from those types of 2000s Comedy Central/Adult Swim series, I thought Hazbin may fill the void.

Now we have PSG back, which really kills the one potential benefit this series has.

I think the problem with Amir -- and maybe with a lot of these casting choices -- is that Vivzie chose him entirely on his singing voice, and his performance of this song specifically. And it's a good performance for sure, but there's more to Alastor than You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile. Ed nailed that careful mixture of 1920s showmanship and "I am a slight southwesterly breeze away from killing everyone in this room."

Exactly, Viv is a musical fanatic and most likely chose these people mainly because they can sing well. It says something that they’ve all been on Broadway and aren’t very recognizable outside of that (with the possible exception of Keith, Alex and Stephanie).

Obviously, acting is part of what the new VAs do too, but there's a distinct difference betweem them and the pilot group who lend their voices to characters for a living.

Kimiko Glenn's made a pretty decent name for herself in the voice acting world iirc, but I'm not sure about everyone else you didn't name.

I will never get over Alastor's design. He looks like an anime villain downgraded into a toon boom flash character.

Can we get a thread for this one? I'm a lazy faggot. It looks a lot better than new HH and I love Jax (the purple bnuuy). The characters are also really endearing designs.
I think there is a thread for glitch productions but it's rather dead.

Also it isn’t exactly dead since it was posted in yesterday.

Besides, you know what a good solution to a dead thread is? Start using the thread.

Everyone except for Keith and Alex is a literally who, figures. That said, Alex being Pentious feels like a really weird choice.
Apparently Stamper isn't available, being not only drinking himself to death and going to jail all the time but apparently being mad at Vivzie over who knows what.
