Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it's nothing to get excited about. Episode one was abysmal compared to episode two. And not even two episodes in and it does seem like it's getting closer to what people were speculating about the show being male-focused. I'm expecting every leak about this show to be spot on when all of season one is out. And if the finale doesn't end on a cliffhanger (though, possibly it will end on a compromise or hell will end up winning), and this show somehow manages to be greenlit for season two, expect only homo-driven story arcs for each of the main male characters.

One of my biggest criticisms of the pilot when it came out was that the character designs and settings all use very similar color palettes (mainly shades of red and hot pink) so the characters don't actually stand out very much against the backgrounds. It would appear that is still the case, and it's still just as unpleasant to look at, even if I think the animation looks a smidge better.

This shit is pretty gay. Just about every character feels like I've seen the exact same character already in another mediocre adult cartoon. The humor is extremely heavy handed because that's popular with these shows for some retarded reason (to make it easier for redditors to understand I guess?) and even the story pacing sucks, episode 1 leaves me with no motivation to keep watching, I'm still wholly uninvested in the hotel and the angels are pure cringe and I don't want to see more of them.

I spent far too much time skimming through all of the highlights in this thread.

The original pilot of HH was actually really funny, but it had enough gay sex jokes to get me to not finish it. Totally fine, I'm not the target audience, but it gave me enough hope to think that the crew behind it was competent enough to put together something fairly recognizably stylized to succeed. The animation overhaul we see in the leaks kind of kills this.

Viv is 100% a lolcow (and she probably reads this thread). All I can say to her when she inevitably reads this is to just try and not go off the rails too much and stick to the fundamentals that made the HH pilot episode really work. I know studios want changes, but sometimes you have to fight against that to keep the core product the core product.

I still have to watch any 2nd season episode of Helluva boss.
The idea of demons working as hitmen from the pilot and first episodes where actually something I liked, and comedy part was passable as well.
I kinda got tired after they started dropping the whole concept to do more demon world oriented shit and character's backstories, which really works in small doses.
I don't think the show is unsalvageable and the characters are unlikeable, but they really need to make a serious change of direction and go back to do more assassination stuff.
I have the Hazbin hotel's pilot in my to-watch-later list and still have to touch it, and I preferred to re-watch Night on the intergalactic railroad and Ymfah's DS2 Top gear video a third/fourth time than give it a shot to that pilot and second season.
I understand that they are furries and if they don't have gay shit featuring sparkledogs every 3 seconds they contact rabies, but we reached a point where there are less scenes where human characters get killed on screens than scenes where dollar store Grimm does gay shit with the imp.

Kinda hard to fight against changes when you yourself are making said detrimental changes to the show (*cough* Helluva Boss *cough*)

This is all Vivz, this is shit she did on her previous project Zoophobia, that is, abandoning the main focus of the show on endless side stories, introducing and then dropping characters at random, and completely losing focus to the point she gives up.

I hate to say it, but this is a case where some executive meddling could have helped.

What they need is a not executive meddling, but a goal to focus the story and characrers toward, have it framed on the wall and hire someone that's always ready to reach the writers and turn their head toward it, to ensure they don't lose direction.
Episodes like the one where budget Grimm bring his daughter to the shitty amusement park should feel like an exception inserted to slow down the pace, not the norm.

A Very Special Episode where they have feels in a comedy isn't very special when it's every episode and they quit doing comedy.

Precisely.
Also, about bad management of an animated series, Steven universe is easily the best example one should look at.
If you were to ask someone what went wrong, they will first tell you that nobody but rebecca sugar gave a shit about lars and most of the other humans, as well as the fact that the main plot needed more focus, which resulted in a rushed ending that made no sense.

Baxter confirmed.
