Hazbin Hotel's animation is hella good...... Except when it's not.
I'm trying to get back in animation myself and I consider her animation both inspo and anti-inspo. There is one element that I want to avoid the most and that's the choppiness of the animation itself.

Lack of frames perhaps? My best guess. Otherwise, I don't know why it comes across so choppy. Maybe if she toned down the cluttered designs, the cluttered color palettes, the cluttered backgrounds, the cluttered scenes, and needless music numbers she could invest more into the animation itself. I've seen people mix puppets with frame-by-frame animation and it can work really well. But with her animation style, it makes it look worse. Her work is an example of sheer bad direction.

I think that's what got people hooked for so long in the first place. It's what got me, that's why I'm still in this damn thread, the idea of a hell that's just a modern day earth, except everyone's basically free to let their worst impulses run free since they've already been damned to hell is just so fascinating, you could have people gossiping about how they died, centuries old tyrants and crime bosses getting up to their old tricks with whatever influence that may have carried over from earth, the question of how the daughter of Lucifer could develop morality and come to love a fallen angel in such a cursed place, Satan as a fallen angel himself reacting to his daughter dating someone from heaven, fucking anything.

The show's basic premise is genuinely the most kino shit, and it unfortunately had to land in the head of some 31 year old child who just wants to animate skinny singing demons with stupid looking designs fucking each other in the butt all day while people praise her for it.
>"The best part of world building is knowing 2010s era Tumblrites like Vivz don't know how to"
>"And it's important to world build to remind 2010s era Tumblrites that they can't write for shit"
>"All they know is swearing, LGBT relationships, having the setting be a knockoff of New York/San Francisco, and poorly planned music numbers, and that's pretty much it"
>"Hey, that's a nice fictional world"
>"Not that Vivz would know"

On a more serious note, I seen people blame HH having only ten episodes being a reason for the dubious writing.

I personally know two people who committed suicide and that was because they stopped taking their medication. Hopefully everyone knows this but just in case: don't stop taking your meds without talking to your doctor first.
You know, Hazbin Hotel reminds me of The Greatest Showman. Both have high production values with visual eye candy, but the story and characters are shallow. Both could have also been better and more interesting if the Director decided to do more research and take the much needed risks. It's funny because Hazbin's Lucifer is based off the film version of P.T. Barnum, when he really should have been based off the real life version if she wanted to go for the "ringmaster of Hell" shtick.

Hold on, are the Vees the good guys? Like obviously they're assholes and Valentino is a rapist or whatever but hear me out. They have nothing against Charlie or the hotel, so as an antagonistic force their opposition is solely to Alastor, and as far as I can tell that's an entirely fair position to hold because he's at best pretending to help. The Vees, by sending Sir Pentious to the hotel, have been the only people to successfully recruit anyone to the hotel since the pilot despite 6 months of Alastor's "help", and finally, get this, they're the ones who suggest fighting back against extermination in the first place, they investigate the dead angel and correctly figure out who killed it, and they implore the other overlords to fight back and stop the angels instead of being cowards and simply waiting for the slaughter like sheep. Like, are they supposed to be the bad guys or not? Cause that's what they end up doing anyways and it doesn't even take an army to do it, just a small town of cannibals and some angelic weapons and they managed to repel more or less the entire extermination force. If there had been more than one overlord present they probably wouldn't have even needed Lucifer for Adam.

Vivz literally said Lucifer was supposed to be based off of P.T. Barnum. The design should also be an obvious allusion. She also mentioned how A Million Dreams was inspirational.

I was hoping that Vivz caught a glimmer of her stumbled upon depth and that she'd pick up the hint she gave us by accident - Hell is a "Circus" and Lucifer was making a statement of the absurdity of hell and even eternity itself, maybe - but as we now know, she didn't, or she forgot, or season 2, maybe? Jesus, Vivz.
[Verse 1: Ziv Zaifman]
I close my eyes and I can see
A world that's waiting up for me
That I call my own

Through the dark, through the door
Through where no one's been before
But it feels like home

[Pre-Chorus: Ziv Zaifman]
They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say I've lost my mind
I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy

We can live in a world that we design

[Chorus: Ziv Zaifman]
'Cause every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keepin' me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it's gonna take
Oh, a million dreams for the world we're gonna make

[Verse 2: Ziv Zaifman]
There's a house we can build
Every room inside is filled
With things from far away
Special things I compile
Each one there to make you smile
On a rainy day

[Bridge: Michelle Williams, Michelle & Hugh]
However big, however small
Let me be part of it all

Share your dreams with me
You may be right, you may be wrong
But say that you'll bring me along
To the world you see
To the world I close my eyes to see
I close my eyes to see

For the world we're gonna make

This made me think of Lucifer having a plan all along to make Hell into a better world than either of the two above, to defy Heaven (and even ~eXpeCtaTioNS~) and lift people out of their own bullshit, leading by example. You know, something Luciferian with a side of Nietzsche shuffling in out of frame as a sight gag going "YES!" before he turns into an ubermensch or something?

NAH! Can't do that even if the song is literally singing it in your ears and you listen non stop, you autist, good fuck fuck you Vivz. You had that in your head but you made it about you and solely you, not your staff, not your creation, not your characters, and it was just gay melodrama.

Sigh.

I'm sure this question has already been answered, or I'm asking way too early, but have there been any solid leaks on season 2 yet? After seeing how accurate the last ones were I'm interested to see what's known for the upcoming season.
I think the only solid leaks that will be in Season 2 are who the characters and audience thinks is Lilith is really Eve, the real Lilith is Rosie, and the actual villain is a "root of all evil" as kind of hinted in the prologue because foreshadowing is another thing Vivz can't do.

Video gets incredibly faggy towards the Angel Dust "Ess-Ayy" part, but xe does bring up an interesting point about how that, while the Loser Baby song is nice, it is no way comparable to Angel's situation.
Husker has to deal with a deer pulling his chains and limited freedom, while Angel has to deal with getting gangraped for showbiz day in day out by a bastard fellow. This of course doesn't help when Angel comes hot off of some dumb pop-song about him getting turbofucked by everyone.

Meanwhile, Charlie, who actually stood toe to toe with Adam despite being afraid of fighting and apparently devoid of any training or experience at all - while Adam casually one shots Alastor, who is apparently unmatched among overlords - lets it happen. As does Vaggie, who is still an exterminator/exorcist/I forgot.

As disappointed as I am at how this show turned out, I’ll actually feel really sorry for my friend. He was the one who introduced me to HB and HH. He likes HB, even with its flaws, but he was so hyped for HH. The pilot made it look decent.

Watching his reaction to the poor writing won’t even be funny. It’ll just be depressing.
Update to this. My friend watched it. Yes, it was absolutely sad. He’s currently seen only the first episode, but he certainly isn’t looking forward to the rest.

Damn it, Viv.

Not really, like even excluding Valentino who has done so many horrible things in the show. The Vees are power hungry and egotistical since they only wanted to fight back to flex on their own power, since the moment the Hotel fought back against the Angels, they just sat around, actively hoping the Hotel characters would die for their own purposes.

Hell the entire premise of the Hotel if it works would make the Vees or really any self-absorbed Overlord pissed since if people can go to Heaven, that would mean less souls they'd swindle since Overlords get power from the more souls under contract which is very likely negated by going to Heaven.

Yeah but it's still a good thing with a good outcome. Should we dismiss the fact that they wanted to end mass genocide of their people simply because they didn't have the best intentions?

They didn't have any angelic weapons. Whats-her-name had the opportunity to sell them angelic weapons and come clean about how she killed an angel, and chose not to. What exactly were they gonna do if they did show up?

Yeah but the upside is they're in heaven (and not hell.)
Assuming heaven doesn't suck ass like Hell does then I think they'd be willing to give up power for literally paradise.

I will never trust anything this guy says about Vivzie's writing after his video praising Helluva Boss' "Circus".

It's very unlikely to be true, after 6 months only one soul went to Heaven, the Hotel's success rate is not reliable and Charlie has no way of knowing how to replicate the process other than "have friends, be nice and die."
I'm not sure that sinners who want to escape being exterminated will risk a process that involves them having to be killed in hopes of ascending to Heaven.

This will not threaten the Overlords from getting souls because the number of people who die and go to Hell will always be greater than the people who ascend to Heaven by a huge margin, even more so if the soul contract involves an "is It's forbidden to go to Hazbin Hotel"

Of all the HH characters to psychoanalyze wouldn’t Angel Dust be more interesting? You could talk about the effects of sexual abuse, hypersexuality, etc… oh wait that would get the video demonetized and we gotta be sex positive don’t we.

How many people are permanently depressed as a fashion statement?

Back to your point, really analyzing Angeldust means analyzing how Vivz is fucking up, and so require analysis of her fujo ways and her fanbase, and the unhealthy dynamics between viewer and media and fucking torture porn they all want. For a "comfort character" she mostly wants him to be a gay punching bag instead of someone who evolves and grows out of that.

Back in the day bored ladies from noble houses would constantly get "migraines" or would faint all the time as it was fashionable. Today they are autistic or have some other mental issue making the so very special.
